Following the embarrassing news that Mayor Dave Bing’s GMC Yukon was hijacked by criminals this week, Detroit’s Channel 7 reports that the Reverend’s Caddy Escalade SUV was stolen and stripped of its wheels while he was in town last weekend with the UAW’s militant President Bob King leading the “Jobs, Justice, and Peace” march promoting government-funded green jobs.

Read that again: Jackson’s Caddy SUV was stripped while he was in town promoting green jobs.

Add Jesse to the Al Gore-Tom Friedman-Barack Obama School of Environmental Hypocrisy. While preaching to Americans that they need to cram their families into hybrid Priuses to go shopping for compact fluorescent light bulbs to save the planet, they themselves continue to live large.

“We need an economy that creates employment that can't be shipped overseas,” the Green Rev wrote for CNN about the march. “Home-grown American labor will be installing windmills and solar panels. A green economy is not an abstract concept.”

Well, its certainly abstract to Jesse, but I digress.

Actually, time long ago passed Detroit by because Jesse’ favored government mpg mandates and UAW wages stripped the Big Three’s ability to compete against non-union transplants. These jobs were real – unlike the artificial, government subsidized green jobs he shakes down the feds for today.

Real jobs produced big, profitable SUVs like the one Jesse prefers to ride in. His SUV has been stripped by thugs – a fitting metaphor for what Jesse and his pals have done to the auto industry for the last 35 years.

IOW, when there is a topic on a conservative board railing against someone who is afraid people might be "uncomfortable" around the American flag, I'm not really motivated to chime in with my agreement. I simply don't find that sort of thing to be interesting, I guess. I drive my wife crazy frequently, by taking the contrarian POV, aka "playing the devil's advocate", even when I basically agree with her view. I guess I just automatically try to look at things from different angles.

Anyway, although this is a local story, I just thought it was an opportunity for me to post something that likely falls right in line with the majority of posters here, for a change, and illustrate that I'm not in fact an America-hating far-left whacko who is against every feeling or idea that might be found on the right (and by that, I do not necessarily mean "correct") side of the political spectrum.

This staffer was totally out of line, if this is true as reported. The school principal, when interviewed on TV, said she can see no scenario in which it would be wrong to display the American flag on school property, and that the school has several flags displayed in its hallways. She said that when this particular staffer returns to work after the holiday, she will find out if this actually happened the way it has been reported by the student, and if so, why.

IMO, if someone living in America is "uncomfortable" by the American flag, then they can get the hell out. That applies whether they are a citizen or not. I'm all good with "diversity". I'm not good with people who choose to live in America, benefit from what America has to offer, and act as if it is some great evil.

Although I don't like to see it, and I wouldn't do it myself, I can respect the right of another person to desecrate the flag as a form of free speech during a protest, but that is entirely different from a government worker discouraging the proud display of the flag on government property.

I can also respect the feelings of some, such as American Indians (I don't think I'll refer to them as "native" Americans, since I'm a native of this continent also) who may genuinely be "uncomfortable" by the display of the American flag. I have such a person in my extended family. I can respect his feelings, even if I don't agree with them. This is where he lives, he was born into the country long after whatever happened in history happened, and it may have been unfortunate, but things are as they are. Too bad. Get over it. An oil rig has exploded 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana, with 12 people overboard and one missing, the Coast Guard said Thursday morning.

Rescue attempts are underway for at least 12 people, Coast Guard spokesman John Edwards told CNN. 13 people were on board the rig total, Edwards said, noting 12 have been accounted for, but one person was missing.

The accident took place 80 miles off the coast of Louisiana on the Vermilion Oil rig 380, which is owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy.
