As most of you are aware, NoPC was totally unavailable from last night at around 11 PM CDT to 8:38 AM CDT.

What happened is that we had too many connections to the database and the database server got taken down. This caused an error in the main message table and I needed to run a repair most of the evening to "fix" the table's structure.

The forum is now back to something approaching it's normal chaotic state.

Also, I'd like to take a rare moment, step out of character and thank Lance for the forum, the expense and the effort it takes to keep it up.

I got a message just before the board crashed that said too many connections. So did we outgrow the capability of this message board? Is this going to continue? What steps are being taken to avoid this type of crash in the future? Just kidding, great job taking care of this site and keeping it going. I'm surprised this is the first time we had a problem (since I've been here). Great work!

To answer the first question: The database connections issue is when we hit an internal limit in MySQL. This problem can usually be avoided by cycling the server every so often---in our case, I didn't do it quite often enough.

On the other stuff...cool. "Features"...

Seriously, these are bugs in SM 2.5.0, probably from the upgrade we got in the same timeframe. I will check it out and post it for the SM developers.

Anybody else having trouble with IM's? I just tried to send one, but I suspect it got lost.
