Partially Identified Flying Object

Yesterday morning there was some kind of strange balloon thing in the sky above northern Phoenix. It is still driving me nuts because I don’t know why it was there.

It was white, round but somewhat compressed into a slightly flattened ball or fat saucer shape, and it had four “corners” hanging or being pulled down into points. It was also dangling something shiny from the very center. It is really hard to explain, but I had a pretty good view of it with my binoculars. The strangest thing is that is was not moving…at all. Not up, not down, not swaying with air currents…nothing. It was way too far to be tethered; it was not blimp-shaped; it was definitely not any type of marketing balloon. It could have been a weather balloon, but it didn’t look like any picture that I could find on the web and it just did not move. I saw it there when I got up at around 6:30, I showed it to my husband at 8:30, and when I looked again at around 9:30 it was gone.

It’s just driving me crazy ‘cause I can’t figure out what it could have been. The best I can guess is some new kind of weather balloon???

Any ideas?

Hi Julia. Long time no see. Here's hoping that life is treating you OK.

Sounds like a weather balloon to me. Or some top secret military project. ;)

Isn't your part of the world known for things like this? ;D

Hi kathleen. Thanks...life is busy...wish I could post more. Fourteen credits at my age is a little tougher than whenI was 19. Fun, though. I'm such a dork, I love it. :-[ :D

But I'm taking My first Chem class in 20 years. :o I'm sure it will get tougher, but we just recently learned the metric system - and people don't get it. The teacher is pretty bad, but how can you not get a system based on 10's? I think I did pretty badly on a test last week, though. Super simple stuff that I totally know, but I just blanked. Grrrr!

Anyway, I can't imagine what else that ballon could have been but a weather balloon. It was just completely different from any I have seen before. <shrug>

We do have a lot of military planes and helicopters here. I think they are starting to use the Predator planes near the border. And I first saw one of those stealth B-2 bombers in the sky when I lived in Tucson...way before they were introduced to the public.

Maybe they already did... If they did the pen light trick to me, how would I know? :o

'Whatever' you saw does not exist.

Yes, I realize that you saw it with your own two eyes.

It. still. does. not. exist.

Do I make myself clear, citizen? Good.

Now put down the binoculars before we have to shoot you.

I have witnessed a couple of what could only be called UFOs. That is, I sure hadn't seen anything like them before. But . . . there is no doubt at all in my mind that they were ours . . . but still secret. (I was remotely involved in a situation while in the USAF in the 1950s when we flew B-52s at high altitude over Detroit taking radar pictures to see if radar would detect the aircraft . . it didn't.)

I'm sorry, Julia, but Unca Waltie is gonna show up with a deneuralizer. You won't remember anything, but you will have had a wonderful time, and gotten new drapes.
