For about the last ten days I've received this persistent Kles virus, one each afternoon. My Norton catches it, but along with each comes a different email each day with a different subject which shows no Norton detected virus. I quaranteen and delete the virus and delete the other daily email both from the email inbox and the delete folder.

Is there anything I can do to prevent these from coming in?

Do you open the emails? I never open emails if I don;t recognize the email addy.

I was getting them for awhile too. Once my virus scan caught it and deleted it the addresses were automatically sent to deletion from then on.

I got about a dozen of them over a really short time....a few minutes.

Same here I don't open stuff with any question.

These all say "unrepairable" so I have to do it myself.

Sounds like some turd is out to harass ya. I wonder if any of our resident computer geeks could aid in bringing this miscreant to justice?

One addy said "Hope to see you soon." That was a bit unsettling, but that's where we as Christians have the advantage as we trust in God to protect and care for us. This is not to say I don't keep me and mine as secure as humanly possible.

Buzz: That is actually probably someone you know that has a virus. What happens is that when a computer gets inflected with a virus like the Klez virus, it goes through your address book and sends out e-mail to everyone it can.

Someone that has you in their address book has a virus.

Personally, I'd block the sender...but I block everyone anyways.
It it doesn't have "Blow Job" in the subject, it's not even downloaded from the server.

Buzz: To put it all in perspective, I probably get at least six if not more of this blasted things a day. My Norton does catch them all, but it is an annoyance.

I'll bet it's Tony...not to imply that he's bright enough to know he even has a virus, of course.

Same here. My Norton 2003 caught them, and dumped them all automatically.
It was someone I knew that hadn't been so lucky and got infected, then passed it on to everyone in his address book.

I have an older machine that's networked to the main one. The older one has the same protection all updated, but has in it 3 viruses that Norton can neither receive for quaranteen or repair. I've supposedly disabled these files for access, but am afraid to use that computer for emails, etc for fear of sending out a virus. One of the infected files is "The compressed f.6c.Windows/Sys backup. rbooo.cab is infected with the w32.opaserv(win.ini)virus. It's all Greek to me. ????

Any ideas as to how to deal with this without taking it to a tech for cleanup?

Look up the specific virus on the internet, and there may be a fix that will purge it from your system. But it sounds like it got by the scanner to me. Somewhere along the line you must have opened an email attachment from someone you knew and you got it bud.
Buy the most recent protection, like Norton 2003, and keep it updated

Thanks Tileman. I upgraded my Norton last fall and we keep everything updated but three of these same things got through. I'll see what I can find on the internet.

Got'em, Tileman. Thanks again. I found my viruses on the internet and followed the directions. They were worm viruses. It took a couple of hours to get it right. I kept deleting and they would pop up someplace else. Finally got them cornered in the trash bin n gave them their final zap. They didn't move into my other computer which was networked to the infected one when they hit. That surprised me. Of course I disconnected the network cable before working on it. Much appreciated.

Question: One function in the corrective instructions was to unshare my properties in the C drive. It has been "shared" all along for "reading." My other computer was also open so I also "unshared" it. What does that mean, and is it wise to keep it unshared?

I don't know Buzz...........Maybe Lance can help.

It sounds like maybe you have a router between the two and it was acting as a firewall ??? Do you share between the two much? If it's just for sharing a printer, or whatever, I think you can be pretty specific in network neighborhood, or Sygate, or whatever designates the server/client relationship, as to what's shared and what isn't.

Anyway, don't share more than you need to..........but if you give up all sharing it might affect your internet sharing abilities too.

I'd say maybe talk to your isp and let them know your concerns and they may have a cd that may do the setup for you.....?

Thanks tileman. My understanding was that this was to do with internet sharing. Unsharing both machines didn't affect the networking ability. If you right click your C drive and open "sharing" you can tell whether your computer is sharing. According to the virus fix people, this leaves your computer open to these worm viruses which continually search for open sharing. I gotta see if I can figure out what all this sharing stuff involves. These are such complex and interesting machines, aren't they?
