I've had dogs for most of my life and I've never had this problem before. I'm not getting ran out of the house, but I am seeing the ocassional flea and the dog is scrathing more.

I have bombed the house twice. Sprayed the yard twice. The dog has 2 flea collars on and I've done the drop on the back stuff. It's like a constant war to keep these things to a minimal. Anyone got any killer ideas?

Try some of those flea gels-like advantage or frontline. They worked really well for my cats when we lived in our apartment. Flea collars don't work too well.

What Brandon said. Good stuff for sure. You won't see a flea for months.

It ain't cheap. Don't go cheap and get the Hartz stuff. Frontline used to you could only get it from a vet. I don't know whether they've changed that by now.

Also, check these guys out. They have good stuff.

Is this stuff all I need or should I bomb the house again?

We bombed, we sprayed, we cried a couple of years ago....

Frontline is good and well-worth the money if you love your animals....there is also a B-vitamin thing they recommend....I forget the name.

Advantage or Frontline is great stuff. My vet told me that I could use Sevin dust for the yard and on the dog to get rid of fleas.

If you have fleas in your house you will have to bomb several times. The bomb kills fleas but not the eggs. Flea eggs take about ten days to hatch so you have to do it more than once to kill the ones that hatched after the last bomb.

I never had to bomb the house when I used Frontline. Takes about three days and there ain't nary a flea to be found. Even the dog will be impressed. You just wait and see. I used to live in a high tick infested area and I had outdoor dogs. They'd go out in the brush and come back loaded with them. Big nasty blue ticks about half the size of a dime full grown. You could actually hear the nasty things falling off the dog in about two days. Real ugly experience.

You can buy frontline in the store.

I use it on my 2 dogs and 2 cats.

No fleas or ticks come in.

Now if someone can tell me how to stop the cats from leaving a rodent or it's yuccky parts at my front door every day, THAT would be appreciated.

Both have front paws declawed, so that won;t stop them.

Frontline is the best. I've used the cheaper Hartz stuff on my cats before too, and it works. It just doesn't last as long.

I use advantage on the cats and dogs. Vacuuming is essential.. eggs lay in the corners and hatch out later.

That's true Hartz doesn't do the job. Frontline is a lot better kills fleas faster.

You need to bomb your house at least twice, and preferably 3 times. Space the bombings about 3 days apart. Lots of the insecticides used will kill the adult fleas, but don't do anything to the eggs. Kill the adults, and within a week, the last batch of eggs has hatched and will start multiplying again.

It's just a numbers game. The first bombing kills the adults. A couple days later, the eggs from those adults hatch. Shortly (within a day or two, IIRC) after they hatch, they will begin mating again. Bomb them before most of them begin the reproduction cycle. Three days or so later, bomb them again.

FWIW, your dogs either have dog fleas or cat fleas. If you can see fleas in your house but they aren't getting on you, they are dog fleas. If the fleas are pestering you and your dog, they are cat fleas. All flea species except cat fleas are host-specific. Cat fleas will get on just about anything.

You are a day late and a dollar short MP.. the fleas ate the dogs and cats and became super- beings and are working their way up tileman's legs now.. ;D

Frontline is great. My dogs start scratching around June and frontline really does the job. You get a three month supply so you're covered threw the summer months.

Frontline and advantage are best for the animal. For the yard use sevin dust. Something nice for the dogs pillow and helps keep them away are certain herbs. Just make a little sachet of them. I will see if I can find the recipie and I will post it.
