I have a friend who is currently posted at Seoul, Korea in the Air Force. He hit me with this e-mail.

Sorry, all.

Been out of the loop on e-mail since early yesterday. Basically, MSN is a piece of S&%T. I've put up with slow connection times and down times like yesterday for long enough. I had planned to keep it till I got home but I'm about to renege. I'm soliciting suggestions for a good, DEPENDABLE internet service.

Thanks,

Here was my response...

It's more than likely not MSN. If you have broadband service, you should point the accusatory finger at the phone company. When you were in Colorado, you more than likely had Qwest, which is a GFU company any way. [No wonder the bastards are on the brink of bankruptcy.]

Since you are currently in Korea, you might want to check into satellite delivered 'Net service.

sodaknomad: Your assumption is basically correct. It is the connection that your friend is connecting to the Internet, not MSN.

Bear in mind that a lot of foreign telephone and IT infrastructures are far far poorer than ours.

I wish I could give you a "who to call", but I do not have that kind of info.

Depending on how often he wants to use the net-he could splurge and get a GSM cell phone, and connect via that. That infrastructure is pretty good in Asia.

my last apartment building was wired by Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell , and I am therefore immenently familiar with exceedingly slow dial up connections having been accesing the worldwide web at 21k with a 56K moden.

The lead in wires from the outside telephone line consisted of perhaps five strands of copper at best, and a few of them may not have been exactly coherent all the way to my phone jack~!!

THIS in Northerna California,..said to be the most wired area in the world, and only a few short miles from Industrial Light and Magic~!!
