Ok, who is excited about the release of The Two Towers?
I'm actually going to see this one in a theater instead of waiting.
I will be there opening weekend. I'll end up having to drive to North Point Mall to meet with my friends. I did last year, and yet it was worth it.

;D I'm pumped for this one!!! We'll probably be going opening weekend (not quite insane enough for opening night) to see it.
The previews have me drooling and I saw a movie book at Borders the other day. More drooling!!!

Last year, my wife and I went with her brothers, and their wives, while they were home from Alabama for Christmas. We plan on getting together for that one night, and seeing part II. I'm looking as foward to just getting together, as I am to seeing the movie.
Who else has the complete hots for Aragorn and Legolas?

Last year I got the tickets for my friends and I, and this year the task fell on someone else. He was very proud when he declared that he had bought tickets to the December 22nd show….. as in four days after the premier …I mean who cares if the 18th is a workday… I’m spiting blood and vinegar at the moment.

Moonchild: I'm with you here. My wife and I are going with another couple on Sunday. It also doesn't help a whole hell of a lot that just about every review I've read says this one is better than the first one. (That is a scary thought!) But I'm pumped for this one.
I guess the battle scene at Helm's Deep is unbelievable.
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRG! :o
The bad news? We have to wait a year for the last one.

LOTR:TT has opened. If anyone sees it and would like to share an opinion, please let us know. (Yeah, and torment those who HAVE NOT SEEN IT YET!)
I will see it on Sunday (22nd) with my wife and another couple; and then on Monday (23rd) with a good friend. I will let you guys know what I think after I see it.
Reviews by and large appear favorable at this point.

I was just reading a review. I'll probably go see it in the next few days. I watched the first one again this afternoon so it would be fresh in my mind when I see this one.

By all means, share your comments. It's not like we don't know the plot..and for those who don't, screw 'em. :)
I'm hoping to see it Friday. It all depends on how early the maytag repairman arrives. ::)

I almost hate to admit it, but I saw the first one 8 times, I think it was. I am not a huge JRR fan, but the movie was absolutely fantastic.
I have not gotten the extended version yet. Anyone? Is it worth the $$?

As a matter of fact, Fed-Ex just delivered it today. I've watched the first disc and I'd say that it is worth the money. They've added small bits and pieces that were edited out for time when they released the movie. It doesn't change anything but it fleshes it out a bit more. Can't comment on the extraneous stuff yet...I haven't had a chance to view it.

This whole trend of releasing several different versions on DVD to hook you into buying the same damn movie several different times really pisses me off.
In other words, I'd like to buy the extended version, but I already bought the other, and I'm feeling pissy about it.

I should remember not to buy the first one that comes out. Or find a nerdy friend who will buy them all to let me "share."

You know what's going to happen. After #2 is released, an extended version will come out. Same for 3. Then they will offer a box set...then months later, they will have a special edition extended version box set of all three with new interviews, extra footage that you didn't get in the prior ex-versions, ect...
Count me out on that one.

Okay, I've seen it. My one-word review is..
WOW!
I am not going to spoil it for anyone who has not seen it, but my advice is to see this movie. You will NOT be disappointed.
My random thoughts on the movie.
JRR Geeks will probably be upset a little as this movie departs a little more from the book than Fellowship. That said, it is NOT a bad departure. The movie most definitely captures the spirit of the story.
Gollum is totally amazing. The performance alone should win an Oscar and you quickly forget this is a CGI character. Makes Doby, Yoda, or anything else look sad by comparison.
The Ents are cool. Okay, some reviewers did not like them. I did and found them believable within the bounds of the film. Moral of the story at the end..do NOT piss off an Ent!
Helm's Deep: The battles scenes are incredible. WOW, WOW, and again WOW. It is worth the price of admission just for this.
Acting is top-notch in my opinion. It would be hard to say who was best, but Viggo certainly blooms as Aragorn in this movie. Gimili was good with the comic relief where it was needed. Gandalf..what can one say about Gandalf. I think Peter Jackson found the "perfect" Gandalf for these movies.
DO NOT TAKE SMALL CHILDREN! I can NOT emphasize this one strongly enough. This movie is not gory, but it is VERY VIOLENT. The battle scenes at Helm's Deep are totally remarkable from a filming perspective, but small kids will have nightmares for weeks. Plus there is a lot more scary stuff in other parts of the movie as LOTR:TT is NOT tranquil in spots like LOTR:FOTR was. This one starts with a bang (the scene with Gandalf fighting the Balrog) and continues from there. And it is a dark movie. You have no doubt that Middle Earth stands in the balance and the fear and dread are totally believable. PG-13 it is rated and I can NOT emphasize this one strongly enough. (Heck, my wife closed her eyes in some spots!)
Sound Track is another "must-buy". Howard Shore has done a magnificent job scoring both movies so far.
I will be seeing it again tomorrow with another friend. The only bad thing? We have to wait until next freakin' year to see "The Return of the King"!!!

Great movie, although the CGI let it down a bit. It was also a bit heavy on comic reliefs.
The movie although rather long, seemed to be very short, as was the whole evening. On the ride back home (1 ½ hours), I listened to Heather Nova’s song ‘paper cup’ which not only made the evincing more memorable, but also fitted right in.
Paper Cup
Wishful thinking I might be yours
Drifting on every step
I'm always drawn to the dark horse
Sweet sweet, oh nothing's said
And every dream, every, is just a dream after all
And everything stands so still when you dance
Everything spins so fast
And the night's in a paper cup
When you want it to last
Wishful thinking you might be mine
Every shiver sends
One breath under the bridge of sighs
Bending where the river bends
And every dream, every, is just a dream, after all
And everything stands so still when you dance
Everything spins so fast
And the nights in a paper cup
When you want it to last
And every dream, every, is just a dream after all
And everything stands so still when you dance
Everything spins so fast
And the night's in a paper cup
When you want it to last
And everything stands so still when you dance
Everything spins so fast
And the night's in a paper cup
When you want it to last
Indeed a night in a paper cup, with the night vanishing through the paper all too quickly.

Beautiful song, Loki. I've already listened to it three time this morning. Thanks for the link.
I loved the movie, but I wasn't crazy about the Ents. The battle scenes were so spectacular I forgot to close my eyes and say eeewwww. :)

After thinking about it I have come to the conclusion that I have to look at the movie in two different ways.
1. Compared to other movies, which would make it magical.
2. Compared to what it could have been, which leaves it lacking.
I felt that every different part of the movie, like the Ents, the battle at Helms deep, Frodo/Gollum, Faramir etc, needed more time. It felt cut short. Still a lot of it was beautifully done, and frankly you can not expect more than three hours from a movie and a sixology would be too expensive.
I did not like the Ents, the use of Gimli as comedy and some of the exaggerated battle scenes. Seeing Aragorn and Gimli slay ten and ten’s of Orcs at the bridge was over the top, and so was the following horse scene. Riding a horse through hundreds of Orcs is just not plausible, even in a magical fairytale like the LOTR:

I have a 100 mb storing limit on my web space, and have some other music there already. I can fade out some songs after a while, but for now they are active on other BB’s.
I’ll see what I can do, but there will not be that many songs at the time.
