I know how to move the ‘thingies’, but I’m not a chess player. Have not played in years.

truelies;
So is that a typo or subliminal wish? Queen to queen's level 3, captain? I didn't know chess was played in Kansas yet. Yeah, I'll kick your ass. Black or white? ;D

I'll challenge someone in a game if you have the link to an online chessboard and you have 5 minutes to waste.
It'll only take you 5 minutes to lose? ;D

Can anyone say Boris Pasternack? -- Wait a minute that was Spaskey, and Bobby what?
Set 'em up Sam, I smell a hustle coming on. How much ya want to play for? And please make it easy on me.
No one could beat me in high school. My bother-in-law used to get so pissed he'd kick the board over.
In college, I met my match. My best friend, unbeknownst to me, set me up to play a game with the chess champion of Holland, who was a foeign exchange student on campus. He kicked my ass, and humbled me in about fifteen minutes.
I haven't played in years, but I've got a grandson I'll put up against anybody.
Anyone know an online chess place?

I've played it and I liked it, but I can't seem to think past 3 or 4 moves. Plus the fact that I'm always worried about defending "my side". Must be a woman thing. ;D

Yahoo games has a good online chess system. You can set up a private board for your chums only, or let everyone watch.
kathleen ~ re: "... beyond 3 or 4 moves ..." After the Cuban sensation Jose Capablanca beat longtime World Champion Emanuel Lasker in 1921, both players were asked how far ahead they planned during the match.
Lasker told the reporter, "On average, I was looking about 10 moves ahead, depending on the situation."
Capablance said, "I only looked ahead one move - but it was always the best move!"

8. Time out until I set my board up, and see if I can salvage a game. My board got knocked over and Q bishop and knight got reversed in position.
Really? Well I saw that you had posted QP-Q4--and it was such a dog of a move, that I could hardly blame you for kicking over the table. ;D
Ordinarily, under the rules of FIDE, touching a piece you don't intend to move without first warning your opponent would require that you move your king. Kicking over the table is tantamount to resigning.
Your move. ;D

Laz, okay. BTW, my screw up was not sacrificing my bishop and the queen trade to destroy your defensive position. That was intentional and designed to see if I could grab the initiative.
My problem came when I bunped the flimsey table I had my chess board on, knocked it over, and set it back up wrong. By the time I realzed what I had done, I had already made several moves.
As I said, it has been over 25 years.
