I'm trying to think of even one funny story in Scripture that tells of a time where Jesus actually displayed a sense of humor.

Can anyone think of an instance?

I'm sure He did laugh occasionally. Most people do.

True enough. But there is no humor in Scripture.

If Scripture tells us how to live, why is laughter not included?

One might ask why you need to be taught to laugh?
The Bible is there to teach you how to live in a right relationship to God and your fellow man.

There's humor is scripture but you actually have to read it in context and understand what is being said and why before you'd see it. For example when Jesus nailed Nathaniel about his supposedly private comment about "can anything good come out of Nazareth". you can bet Jesus was smiling and laughing when he got the reaction from Nathaniel. When Jesus called down the short dumpy tax collector who was up the tree to invite himself to the mans house for a party. You can be sure that was a comic scene watching the little dude nearly fall out of the tree in surprise. If Jesus wept then Jesus also laughed out loud and I'm sure, often. Jesus was always being invited to dinner parties by the "sinners". They didn't invite him because He was a sour and dour old stick in the mud. The Pharisees hated him because He was so popular with this crowd.

Did He take delight in the people? He loved them so he must have been delighted to be in their company. Did He love and laugh and tease the children? They ran to Him so you tell me.

Sorry I can't think of any of the jokes He told but remember His mission was a matter of life and death and not comic relief.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

I thought it was pretty funny when he told the disciples to "Eat me."

The Bible is not a book of humor. It does however inspire in it's adherants the ability to be joyful, be happy, and to be content as well as the ability to deal with sickness, sorrow and even death. No other book even comes near to the Bible in regard to these.

King Solomon adds a little spicey humor:

"As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed." Prov. 26:14

"He that passes by and meddles with strife belonging not to him, is like one that takes a dog by the ears." Prov. 26:17

"It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than with a contentious woman in a wide house. Prov. 25:24

He also said this:

"There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Even in laughter, the heart is sorroful, and the end of that mirth is heaviness." Prov. 14:12,13

There are also verses which warn of those who mock God, that he will laugh when their calamity comes.

The apostle James, in chapter 4, admonishes to turn laughter into mourning in repentance and humility before God, after which he will lift us up.

I've laughed out loud reading the Bible. What makes you say it contains no humor?

Jesus could get pretty snarky to the Pharisees. I can imagine him having a few chucks with the Apostles over the Pharisees getting into their snits over everything he did and said. Especially when it was so obvious that he didn't take them half as serious as they thought he should. I know if I had been him I would have found it amusing.

Besides if God doesn't have a sense of humour please explain giraffes to me.

Yah, me too. It contains some humor but I think you'll agree that those are rare occasions and that it is not a book of humor.
