View Full Version : Good site for drivers
I need to update some drivers for my hardware, does anybody know of some good sites to download?
Thanks!
I think it depends on what hardware.
At the office we needed to access the Canon site to update our main laser printer when we installed XP on the network. Is there something specific you need drivers for?
I am just curious. I am not a good helper because I don't know Jack Schitt about it. But tell us anyway.

It's for my modem. It came with my Dell, the chip in it is from Conexant. I went to their web site and no down loads.
My motto is:
If I can post - my modem must be okay.
Was that a help to you? ;D
Actually, my modem is the stupid 56K, or whatever, but the tard provider I have connects at about 26.something.
So it is so frickin slow. I want DSL but I think I am too stoopid for it.

I have dial up too, live in the country and all. I get 46K most of the time. The guy at the ISP said I should update my drivers every six months and I've had this computer for a year now so I thought I would update it ... if I can find a site that has them. :)

Well, then I guess I need to update mine, too. I did not know that.
Thanks.
If the manufacturer doesn't have an updated driver, you can go to the Windows Update site. If that yields nothing, I can't imagine you're gonna find a driver that works from another source.
And if it's working now, I personally wouldn't mess with it.

lonestar,
Try this (http://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/).
Select "communication drivers" in Step 3.

http://www.driverguide.com/ :)
I've found drivers there that were nowhere else to be found, especially stuff that manufacturers have stopped supporting.
Thanks Sky.
I called Dell and they gave me a string to add to the modem and now it connects at 115kbsp?? It's only a 56K modem.
I'll try that site.

I've had pretty good luck at Sky's site, but they usually end up linking to the right place at the manufacturer's site. Saves some searching.
Thanks Sky.

No, it doesn't. That's a bug -- it's reporting the speed of your serial port instead of your modem.
It's only a 56K modem.
And that's the fastest it can possibly connect. Actually, if your lines are noisy, you probably won't be able to connect at that speed.
I'll try that site.
Good luck, and hurry back.
