Is upon us...or at least it seems to be today. Gorgeous day. Sunny, warm. I've been puttering around my yard, and I noticed that the weeds are starting to grow now. The grass can't be far behind. Daffodils are in bloom. I'm itching to plant stuff, but I know we'll still have some cold nights yet.

I wouldn't take the storm shutters down right yet if I was you.

You're having thundershowers tomorrow and Tuesday, followed by piss poor weather for the remainder of the week.

Just thought I'd help.

The Daffodils aren't blooming yet. They're about 5 inches up so far...so I guess it'll be mid to late march.

'Bout 3 ft of snow. 20 more cm's in the forecast this week.
Yeah.. spring. In 2 months.. if we are lucky and it's "early".

I just checked the Weather Channel. We have showers starting tonight and lasting all week with a couple of night when it could get down to freezing. I hate it when bad is right. Guess I'd better not get too excited about yard work this afternoon.

It's been monsooning here for the last couple of days. And since storms always travel east...well, I guess anyone east of here is hosed in the next couple of days.

As for Canada...<feh> ::)

If the daffodils are blooming, then you’ve already run through the crocuses… ey?

The monsoons have arrived. So much for pretty spring days...

Don't crocuses mainly grow in colder climates? I don't think they grow wild here like the daffodils do...but I'm sure people must plant them. I just haven't noticed much.

The monsoons are important Suth.. so that spring is green and lush.. not all dried up and crackly and brown like CA. ;D

Snowdrops and crocuses bloom here before the snow is even gone.

Ain't that the truth? ;D

We've been having very nice weather the last week or so. Snow is melting, everything is wet and slushy. During our hike yesterday morning, I stopped a few times to smell the environment. Spring has a definitely aroma, IMHO. The smell of thawing earth combined with the smell of new growth is distinctive.

I couldn't smell it. Spring isn't here. Yet. ;D

The January thaw must come to you about six weeks late, eh? ;D

"the thaw" means that we maybe get bare roads for a couple days.

That must be when the winds blow more than 50 miles per hour... ;D

Take a look at this from today's National Pravda...

Des Moines - Highway officials hope that some weird-looking contraptions will keep snow off the roads. The transportation department has set up dozens of four-legged tetrapods to keep snow from drifting onto the road. Nearby is a triangle-shaped device that spins in the wind to keep snow blowing across the road. Studies have shown that it's far more expensive to plow roads than to redirect the snow.

So.. their solution to ice is?
Makes no sense to me..they still have to maintain the trucks to deal with ice.. Might as well use them.
I think that's a "make work" project for the winter months.. ;D

South Dakota uses a dumptruck with a plow in fromt and a spreader on back. As the road is plowed, the spreader spreads sand on the freshly plowed road. [No, South Dakota doesn't use salt in the roads...]

Man 'o' man! Is it pouring. I wanted to get icecream for supper.. so I decided to walk to the corner store instead of drive. (pony is a much healthier and happier equine when she gets adequate exercise and fresh air). I was soaked through my winter jacket, gloves and wind pants when I got home. Water dripping off my hair.. BUT.... we will have no snow after today.. YIPPPPPEEEEEEE.. :)

My mom was reminiscing yesterday.. about a year that was very unusual weather wise. She wore her shoes to town on Feb 24th cause there was no snow left, and on March 7th she was standing at the kitchen counter planting the tomato seeds for the year, watching them open the road with a bull dozer cause it was that damn plugged with snow. yyeeeccchh..
