I realize the insurance company wants every possible legal "out" tried. But I personally think this is in poor taste and poor judgement too.

There is freedom of religion and should be. But it should NOT be used as a clock to hide your church from paying the price for illegal activities.

well, what the church really should do is settle with the victims themselves. That is has to go to court is simply another black mark upon the RCC in my opinion, speaking as a Catholic.

Actually the idea of connecting the RCC to the AntiChrist/WoB arouse during the Reformation among the Lutherans/Calvinists not the Anabaptists (ancsestors of modern day fundementalists).

I agree - but I dont' think the price the church should pay should be in dollars. Since these suits started - there have been many false ones from unscrupulous folks trying to cash in.

We all know that there was sexual abuse - but I, personally, think there is a big difference between the molestation of a small child and a 17 year old who is simply 'seduced'.

We draw the legal line at 18 - but there are some 15 year olds who are more mature than some 19 year olds. When I worked in the schools - I saw teen boys and girls with sexual knowledge way beyond their years.

Some of these kids that grow up in bad areas are sexually active very young. For one of those kids to participate with a clergy (IMO) is far different than someone like one of my kids who were extremely protected.

Does that make any sense?

I know, darn well, and so do you - if you will admit it - that some of those older teens are far from unwilling participants and yet - they are the now adults who are trying to seek compensation. Sickos. some have valid claims - but this money-compensation thing is getting out of hand. Those were 'criminal' offenses - not civil. IMHO

Nothing brings out liars like the smell of easy money. Of course the liars make it much harder for the legitimately abused to find justice.

Exactly, having the church pay a fine does little to hold the individual wrongdoers accountable.
