???
Should America boycott Saudi oil? Or, should America continue to buy from them?

I don't know if we should boycott, per se, but I do think we should try to find ways to be less dependant on them for our oil. Moose be damned, if you catch my drift.

I agree that we should find better ways to power our vehicles and everything else for that matter. We also need to send those folks a message and a clear one at that.

Can we function very long without it? Don't we get about 20% of our needs from Saudi? Let's face it, we are oil junkies and as great as we are we would crash and crumble without oil.

You want to see social outrage wait 'tll gas goes for $3.00 a gallon.

Could it be that we're spoiled? The US is one of the only countries where gas has stayed below 2.00 a gallon for so long.

It's my understanding that nearly all efforts to market a successful alternative to oil has been squashed by the big oil companies.

I don't know. Would it increase the value of my Chevron stock?

I would like to see a trend towards less and less dependence on fossil fuels over the next few years.

If we do not have the need for them - they cannot be held over our heads.

It took millions of years for that oil to form and we have been pumping it out at an alarming rate - billions and billions of tons.

No one has ever told me for sure that it can upset our tectonic balance or our ecosystem in general, but it seems likely to me. One thing is for sure. Oil is limited. Whether it is in 100 years or 100000 years that we run out - we will run out at some point.

Ethanol is available in mixed solutions now and I hope development contnues in that area as well as solar energy.

The whole thing is that the oil companies seem to hinder the progress of any new or better ways to power our autos and what not. There are better alternatives but when will we wise up and push for them.

Yup. BIG money tied up in oil.

No need to boycott. Just occupy the oil fields and freeze the Saudi bank accounts.

As to alternatives- solar & grain alcohol are not all they are cracked up to be by some on the green side of things. Myself I like driving an SUV instead of a Yugo. The only real alternative is nuclear electric for stationary power needs & hydrogen for vehicles (or perhaps electrib with much better batteries).

You are very right about that. But they are in their infancy. Legends tell of how there was a Huge crystal (kinda like the ones in radios and other devices) that powered Atlantis. Probably a myth but somehow crystals - although they do not produce energy are capable of magnifying it .

That is another interesting concept.

I am all for becoming independant (as a country) on our own technology and resources so no one else can use them against us.

That you BN?

Anyone here have any familiarity with the concept of zero point energy?????

Trust me this is not BN.

Well don't tell us...we like guessing games.

Speaking of SUVs, What Would Jesus Drive? An extended cab 4x4 pickup. He WAS a carpenter, after all. :)

Being a polite person I always answer the exact question that is put to me. I was asked was I was BN and answered truthfully.

As to what JC would drive, I have to go with Hummer. He is NOT the wuss some make Him out to be.

I cannot provide any convincing source, but I have heard from more than one reliable person that the oil companies buy out the pantents on the inventions, and hold them so nobody knows about it.

It is not possible to boycott oil from a particular producer, nor for a producer to embargo shipments to any particular country. The oil market functions independently. The only differentation between oil stocks is their grade, not the point of origin. Once in the system, the oil can be purchased by anyone with the money.

The Arab Oil Embargo of 1973 was a failure. The gas lines and shortages experienced in this country were caused solely by an idiotic Congress, which placed a price freeze on domestic production, thereby stifling the supply.

I love hearing these old rumors about oil companies stifling new inventions and efficiency! Pardon my common sense, but hypothetically, if say Exxon had such an invention, wouldn't they make 100 times the money they do now by putting it on the market? I guess it is just easier for some people to believe in some big conspiracy than to deal with reality . . .

Oh yeah, and the carburetor that ran on water, the oil companies bought that too! ::)

What moronic BS! Did the aliens that abducted you people give you all these interesting tidbits while they inserted the anal probes?

Maybe we could buy [more] oil from the other countries,
and not buy anymore from Saudi Arabia. I know we get oil from other countries, why not increase our purchases from them? And we could start drilling in Anwar, or whatever that place was called, to get even more oil.

Sorry, that won't work. It would be like going into the grocery store and saying, "I want a loaf of bread with NO WHEAT FROM NEBRASKA!" They have no way of knowing where the flour originally came from, and the oil market works the same way - it all goes into the same (figurative) pipelines.

ANWR total known reserves wouldn't keep us going for a year. It is still a good idea to have the capacity to pump it if we need it, though, and the only way to do that is to let them drill and start pumping now.
