Prayer crowns God with
the honor and glory
due to His name, and
God crowns prayer with
assurance and comfort.
I will exalt you, my God the King
... and extol your name for ever and
ever. Great is the Lord and most
worthy of praise; his greatness no
one can fathom.
-Psalm 145:1-3
Thank you Ed. Now please explain why that specific verse is relevant to anything?
Ed - do you think Zeus and the Greek myths are true?
How about teh fabled Atlantis rising again oneday from its watery grave?
Maybe it is time to see reality Ed. I like you.

God looks not at the oratory
of your prayers, how elegant
they may be; nor at the geometry
of your prayers, how long they
may be; nor at the arithmetic
of your prayers, how many
they may be; nor at logic of
your prayers, how methodical
they may be; but the sincerity
of them.
In Christ we speak as persons
of sincerity.
- 2 Corinthians 2:17 NRSV

CherryBomb: "Thank you Ed. Now please explain why that specific verse is relevant to anything?"
You are welcome.
Relevance is in the eye of the Beholder.
CherryBomb: "Ed - do you think Zeus and the Greek myths are true?"
Sort of. But they are irelevant to me.
CherryBomb: "How about teh fabled Atlantis rising again oneday from its watery grave?"
Perhaps, strange things happen.
But right now it is irelevant to me.
CherryBomb: "Maybe it is time to see reality Ed.
I like you."
"To see reality" sounds PC=politically correct.
Maybe we need to come to an understanding
of why we experience reality whether we
wish to or not.
I find you interesting. I do not do "like" easily;
nor do i do "dislike" easily. Let us speak more
of these matters as time permits.
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
(New Testament | Ephesians 4:11 - 14)
Find that church that has these things and you have the found the true chruch of Jesus Christ. Not just one or two of them but all of them for as the scriptures says they are all needed until we come unto a unity of the faith and we are not in a unity of faith so we must still need them but I'm pressed hard to find them in any Catholic or Protestant churches or any of a thousand independant Chrisitan churches.
Thanks for answering me Ed.
I just thought that the specific quote you posted showed a lot of hero-pacifying.
Why should God have to have His name exhalted?
Just being His child should be good enough.
Is that about being a "jealous God'? So you have to praise Him vocally?
If you don't will He still love you? Will he forgive you if you praise another God?
Do you praise Him because you are scared what He will do if you don't?
Does God ever punish people? That's a scary thought, huh?

The fewer words
the better prayer
And when you pray, do not use
vain repetitions as the heathen do.
For they think that they will be
heard for their many words.
Therefore do not be like them.

My favorite 'prayer' verses:
From The Gospel according to Luke, Ch.18 KJV
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
and
From The Gospel according to Matthew, Ch.6 KJV
5: And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6: But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Why is it that those who come to my door to 'witness to (at) me' always want to insist on 'praying with me' before they leave? I have my own closet. Do they not have one? Perhaps I should offer them the use of mine.
The fewer words
the better prayer
And when you pray, do not use
vain repetitions as the heathen do.
For they think that they will be
heard for their many words.
Therefore do not be like them.
- Matthew 6:7-8 NKJV
Can anyone say Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson?
I like this devotion.

Do have any idea how funny it is to see the words daily devotion by CherryBomb strung together? ROFL.

Lonestar: "Find that church that has these things and you

You lost me using "church" in the first sentence
with (to me) two different meanings. But then on
further reading i think you may have the
same problem. I think i agree with you, but
i think you don't know what you are talking about.
But it could be different, i guess.
CherryBomb: "Thanks for answering me Ed."
YOu are welcome.
CherryBomb: "I just thought that the specific quote you posted
showed a lot of hero-pacifying."
Reminds me of a joke.
The world renouned psychiairist was yanked into heaven.
He asked why he was there. "Not to worry"
says saint Peter, i'll put you back as soon as
you are done. God has a problem."
The psychiairist asks "what kind of a problem?"
Saint Peter says: "He has a superiority complex."
The psychiairist notes: "God is superior, how
can He have a complex?".
"No, no" says Saint Peter "You don't understand,
God thinks He is George W. Bush". :)
Well, that is an old joke for sure. First time
i heard it the punch like was "He thinks He is
Harry Truman" :)
Anyway, back to God asking for some exhaltation.
I think God hardly needs my exhaltation and/or
adoration. Yet He asks for it. So it much be
that God knows I need to exhalt &/or adore.
I'm assuming here that God has my best interest
at heart. So what He does is for my best
benefit.
CherryBomb: "Why should God have to have His name exhalted?"
As i said, it is for our benefit, not His.
All the exhaltation i have doesn't add perceptably
to His glory.
CherryBomb: "Just being His child should be good enough."
Is that all we really need?
CherryBomb: "If you don't will He still love you?"
He already did. Why should He change just cause
we blew it?
CherryBomb: "Will he forgive you if you praise another God?"
Yes, probably. Humans aren't perfect.
CherryBomb: "Do you praise Him because you are scared what
He will do if you don't?"
No. And i don't know anybody that does.
Which makes me disregard the attemts of others
to "scare" me into doing anything. And i sure don't
usually try to convince anybody with scare techniques
that don't work.
CherryBomb: "Does God ever punish people? That's a scary thought, huh? "
Yep, scary thought. Most people aren't motivated
by fear more than temporarily.
BTW, God does not punish people as much as they
punish themselves. Howerver, there is probably
a real hell for eternal punishment, whatever that
consists of.
CherryBomb trailer: "I have an axe to grind.......mind
if I use your face? "
Feel free. Everybody else does :)
Ed,
I'm not one bit surprised you didn't understand my post. Read the scripture and tell me what you think it means.

Prayer is the chief agency
and activity whereby
humans align themselves with
God's purpose.
We know that all things work
together for good for those who love
God, who are called according
to his purpose.

I'm an asshole trudging through life with a world full of assholes. I've never met one man or one woman that I would pay much attention to on how I should live my life but I have met many who have tried to tell me how to live it.

Byteme: "I'm an asshole trudging through life with a world full of assholes."
Everyone should have one, an asshole that is.
Anymore than one is over doing it.
I already have one, i don't need another.

Building a state of thankfulness into one's self is
half the battle toward a successful life. Maybe
80%. I'm not talking here a list of "stuff", goodness
knows most of us have more stuff than we can
mow, polish, upkeep, maintain, etc. Mostly what
we need to be thankful for most is our blessed
Lord and Savior: Messiah Jesus. But we also need
to be thankful for our relationships that we have
with the people that God has sent our way.
