BMI is not necessarily an accurate measurement of heart risk. It does not take into effect that some people weigh more due to muscle content. Muscle weighs more than fat.. therefore.. a person who body builds would get a higher BMI than a slimmer person who does not work out but weighs less, but in fact.. the person who works out is more fit, and has a healthier heart.

Yeah, yeah...and it doesn't take into account whether you have tits or not either. :)

I doubt it's a good measure for people who are highly athletic, but it works for normal people.

I dunno...I wonder if you could find out with kitchen scales...not that I have any kitchen scales...

I fall in the normal range on the BMI scale, but I'd like to shed a point or two. :)

If I'm gonna do that hike in the summer, I better get my ass in gear again.

Today mine is 17.7, but I could gain 5 pounds in 2 days and be up to 18.6.

My tits don't help much. :(

But they are proportional... :D

I have a kitchen scale.

What would my husband would think if he woke up to see me with my tits laid out on the scale?

Ummmm, honey...I think you need a triple beam for weights that small... :(

You're right - it is more an indicator for those who do not build muscle mass - and Curves For Women uses it with some success as it is a ratio of height to weight.

Pony makes a good point about overall fitness - which the BMI does not take into account. Typically - when I lift a lot of weights - my BMI will increase - but my actual dress size may decrease. Weird, huh?

But it has proven effective in giving women a standard to watch. And usually, when they lose weight - it will lower the BMI.

I think that's just the way it works. Lot's of people gain weight when they first start exercising, and it takes a little while for them to see a decrease on the scales. They get discouraged and quit, not realizing they are exchanging fat for muscle, and muscle weighs more even though it is actually trimmer.

Sometimes we take these measures too seriously. We should just go by the way our clothes fit.

I'm not worried about keeping up with anyone on a hike. I just want to look good at the beach. ;)

I married a man who says that more than a handful gets in the way.

Luckily he has very small hands. :D
