The forums as they exist on NoPC today have pretty much been the same for quite a while. Years, in fact.

What would people like to see? I'm throwing this open for discussion for all our new arrivals as well as the regulars.

Hi Guardian. My first and probably only suggestion is a larger font for us old codgers with bi-focals. I get a terrible crick in my neck trying to read the small print.

Yeah, Lance, I'm with John on the font. I feel like I'm a fucking Chink squinting at the 7 pitch. ;D

You can always click view, select text size, and then click larger. I think the site looks pretty good myself. Nice job Lance! :)

This is such a cool forum. I need to take some time to figure out exactly what everything does.

I would like a larger font, too, and I don't know if this is possible but I would like it if after we post a reply we were immediately taken to the new page where the reply is. Because sometimes I want to see the other remarks and reply to them. And sometimes posters are replying pretty quickly and I don't have to find my way back to that page.

And another thing is to have a "login" box pop up when I try to post for the first time in a session. That way I don't have to go back and find the login in button and then find my way back to the page.

This is a super neat forum.I really like where it tells you who posted the last comment on a thread.

Please! No larger font! I like them size 2 (which is what they are. Size 1 would be perfect, but I'll compromise.

if you want to make your font larger (and you are using IE) go to View, Text Size, and pick one larger.

At some point, I will probably ask for moderator volunteers. For the simple reason is that we all do have real lives. Up until about...yesterday...NoPC was relatively small and "size" or "organization" never ever was an issue.

At the bottom, we've always relied on "adult behavior" to manage itself. And this has almost always held true. I think in the 5-6 years this forum has been in existance (yes, its that old), we've had to ban maybe 2 people.

With the larger size...I can't be here all the time. So I'm sure I'll ask for help. Because the bottom line is this...we can make this place just as nice as you all want it. NoPC has an opinion library and if anyone has a well written opinion...I will post it if you desire.

I can do anything with the forums. "Crusades" was the original board eons ago and it was essentially the never ending discussion on religion. I can certainly add additional forums if we wish to direct conversation along a specific topic too. So if the current layout isn't doing it, let me know.

This board will be upgraded in the near future to the latest version of YABB (the software driving it) as it is at least 3 versions out of current. I will post that in the news when I do it. If I get the upgrade instructions, probably Thanksgiving.

I think BurningSky had a question about bandwidth a while back. It shouldn't be an issue for now for the simple reason that this board runs on far more powerful software than Newsmax did. It uses PHP instead of PERL (the language) which is NOWHERE near as resource intensive. Plus its got a database back of it instead of files like UBB@Newsmax. So while our load/bandwidth has gone up, the ponies should be there to handle it.

So keep the ideas coming!

The only thing I will ask in return is that folks act adult. That doesn't mean we can't disagree. That doesn't mean we can't have a heated discussion. There are some things that are over the line and I think we all know what they are. Particularly the gang that has migrated here, which I'm thrilled about.

NoPC also is an affiliate with Amazon (on the Library page). If you do buy stuff from Amazon, it helps me if you do it thru there. And that will be the extent that I will mention it.

Not just because she has experience, but she actually enjoys dealing with all the petty little squabbles, complaining, backstabbing, character assassination, threats, innuendo, and the like that arise when you put a bunch of antisocial misfits in close quarters and shake vigorously. Other than that, I really like this place, I wouldn't want to see the zillion categories and sub-categories Newsmax had, my mind is too small to keep up with them all. :D

Also, just a question, to post a picture or image in a thread (rather than in my profile) do I just use the http:// brackets like at Newsmax...or is there some other new thing I have to learn? God knows it took me 3 days to figure out how to do it at newsmax. :D

First, use the button (its 4th from the left on the second row) to insert an img code structure. You'll type your image URL where it says "URL".

Second, the latest version of YABB supports instant messenger as well. We will be upgrading to this version sometime very soon. So the answer is "no, not right now" but coming very soon.

Aussie: I see you got your log on problems corrected. Any idea why? Was it cookies?

My guess is that most probably don't want the HUGE number of forums that NM had as it is rather large. But certainly more subjects can be added to NoPC.
