View Full Version : Maybe We Will Get a Brand New Jesus!!!
Born of a virgin and no earthly father donating sperm?
The clones are coming....one is set to pop out this month. A wee girl.
I think if she is born on the 25th - folks may be thinking she is a new Messiah.

This whole baby cloning thing gives me the creeps. What makes us individuals and what would you call a replicated version of yourself?

Old news. "Mini Me?"
I am fascinated by the prospect of cloning and genetic engineering.
I dont' think of it so much as identical persons - but as improving the overall health, strength, and intelligence level of the human race.
I know folks want to have their own genetics involved in baby making - but if I had the chance to have my own - or to have a baby with perfect health - immune to cancers and other diseases, and highly intellectual - that's what I would choose. I would love a healthy beautiful child as much as I would love one with congenital defects and vision problems or mental retardation.
The rate at which technology has progressed in the last one hundred and fifty years and the increasing rate at which it is currently developing is astonishing.
I dont' think of cloning and genetic engineering as 'playing God'. I know it is not 'natural' but then again, neither is the Internet , or gettting on a plane and flying a thousand miles in a few hours. Come to think of it - even the 'wheel' was probably considered 'evil' by someone.
But, of course, any powerful technology has the ability to fall into the wrong hands. I don't like the thought of 'mistakes' suffering somewhere.

A clone is not going to be a version of anyone else. We are shaped by genetics and environment. A clone will never have your memories, experiences, dislikes, disabilities, strengths, injuries, scars, etc, etc. The only similarities would be in the genetic code.
I'm not sure, but I think "clone" definitely has a "male" connotation to it. I would respectfully submit "clunt" to differentiate between the sexes.

What a great word this would be
If everyone looked like me!
Handsome, kind, womderful, and smart
With my great big heart.
Or would they clone some ugly, stupid, fart?

If you continue to congratulate yourself so much - we may have to build you a bigger closet just to hold your hat! ;D

An identical twin??
I REALLY don't see the HUGE issue. It will be like any other fertility treatment, too expensive for the average joe.

"It will be like any other fertility treatment, too expensive for the average joe. "
LL: Right, the only ones that could afford it is someone like the stupid little fart named Bush. -- Jeez, just imagine a world full of Bushes. Then you couldn't see the forest for the Bushes, they'd take an eco-bribe to let someone log all the trees.
Cherry, The Lord said to love thy neighbor as thyself, and as you see, I love myself A.Lott.

Thanks man, now I'm gonna have nightmares, a bunch of little Bushies running around saying "a thousand points of light" and "hit a camel in the butt" and other such dumb shit bushisms. Thanks. a. freakin'. lot.
On second thought, W could very well be a clone of Bush Sr., but I think they made a copy of a copy, because you know, he's LIKE Sr., but not as smart. :D

And the skeptics thought that a virgin (no man involved) birth was just too farfetched!!!

If technology continues to go the way it is going, a virgin birth (no man involved) is possible. But only when the baby is female. A virgin birth involving a male child is theorically impossible - you still need a man's cells one way or another.

This is a perfect example of not believing everything you read. We aren't even close to cloning human beings yet. Mice, cows and pigs have been cloned, but the technique used in these cases still has too many flaws to be used on humans. No doubt experimentation continues and I admit there is the possibility that an individual or organization with the right amount of money, influence and connections is doing their own private research. Though I don't believe that any legitimate scientist or scientific organization has attempted such a feat (yet).
