I tried nail polish remover. It didn't seem to do anything. Now I've repainted them in an effort to salvage the situation, but they still don't look all that great. And my fingers are sore from trying to type and shit with them.

I'm a mess. :)

You need to soak them for at least an hour.

Did you get tips only...or the full acrylic coat? Cut them down first...soak....and file the stuff off. Or, you can go to a salon and have them remove the acrylic.

Well sweet pea I warned you... do not use Acetone in any case and do not file. Go to a salon and they have something we use to take those nasty things off that is called "Nail Product Remover". They will then put a towel over your hand to warm it as the remover works. We do not do acrylic nails at the spa but we take them off all the time. DO not file, do not yank it will damage the nail bed and cause an infection. Yukky evil things.

Tips are still stuck to the nail with acrylic & glue. They file the nail a bit then stick the tips on then in order to have a clean nail so it looks natural and not have a line they put acrylic over the nail and the tip. Cutting will only go so far. Dont DUH me Badz I had these fricken things for 10 years on my hands til I had them removed.

Suth,

Unless the tip are really awful, just trim them and stick it out until they grow out. It's annoying, but not the end of the world.

Any non-polar solvent will help dissolve the glue that sticks them to your nails, but the proteins that make-up your nails will suffer. Better to just wait it out.

One hand at a time 2hrs minimum. If ya got an orange wood stick you can tap on them once they dont sound hard you will know the difference you can start scraping the stuff off as it starts to get gummy.

After you have the acrylic off and remember you will have little remnants it wont come off clean like a teflon pan or anything just wash your hands really good with dish soap and if you have a brush use that. After slobber a ton of hand cream on and go to bed with some gloves or mittens on tonight. All will be better in the morning.

Most people do not have strong enough nails to put up with all the things people do to them like using them for tools and typing all day. Now without having acrylic my nails are nice and hard again but it took a year for them to be healthy again and a lot of attention. So no not all women have time for such crap I just happen to be part owner of a Day Spa so its my business. Just like lots of women dont have time to have facials and such because they are working or taking care of some guy's brats. (oh Im in for it now). Usually women's spare time is taken up by taking care of someone else!

Okay...I've gotten most of it off now...still can't seem to make any progress with the thumbs. But my own nails are torn to shreds. I'd say it'll take at least six months for them to look even halfway normal again.

Still, I had to do it this way. They had become painful.

And after all the times I bragged that I don't believe in doing artificial things to my body in the name of beauty, this is probably exactly what I deserved.

I will have ugly, ugly, ugly ass nails for at least six months...maybe even as much as a year...and it will remind me of my lesson. :)

Never, ever have this done if you don't plan to maintain it. I had never done anything like this before. I had no idea you couldn't just take them off.

And don't jump on bad about it. He didn't know that either. It's not like he's ever had them himself. He just thought I would enjoy it, and it would make me feel pretty, and it would be something nice for me that I'd never experienced before. And he was right...right up to the point that my fingers started hurting, and I went insane with the urge to get rid of the damn things. :)

Thanks. Yes, it was very sweet and thougthful.

And maybe my nails will start to heal, as you say, soon. I think they are going to just have to grow out completely to be back to normal, though. We'll see.

What the hell is that clear stuff they paint on them anyway? Not polish, that's for sure. That's what would not come off for anything and mutilated my own nails.

I wish someone had told me that stuff has to grow off and shouldn't be done as a one time deal. But then, I didn't understand a damn thing those girls were saying, so maybe someone did. :P

Wanna hear about stupidity at Christmas?
I thought my fridge cacked again Christmas morning, and in my ire I was willing to believe only the worst.
So.... I contacted the repairman.. who cam out yesterday. Now.. in Canada , the day following christmas is called "Boxing Day" and is a stat holiday. So..this repairman hauled his ass out to my place to determine I had shoved so much baking into my freezer, I jammed the fan guard INTO the fan, stopped the fan and the fridge got warm.
Boy.. did i feel like an ass. :-[

She was soooo pissed, so I said I would pick it up on Friday. I got the ring and necklace...had the boys hang it on the tree and after everyone had thier gifts....I had the boys take some tinsel down. They called her over to help and handed her tinsel and diamonds....I hope the tears were of joy.
