I think I am done. Finally! The tree is in the parlor and is totally in Victorian lace and glided ornaments - instead of the traditional angel on top - I have a lace and beaded teddy bear - and all the other rooms on the main floor are finished - no decorating elsewhere. Since the house is on the market (still.....<sigh>) I wanted it done quickly.
But we did not do much outside - white lights on the columns in front - that is it. Trying to avoid ostentatious look.
What are the rest of you doing to decorate for Christmas?
Does anyone do "country" style ? I am craving a log cabin with a fireplace and tree strung with cranberries - maybe next year. <wistful thinking>

I have not celebrated Christmas for YEARS. I haven't decorated at all. No tree, no lights, nothing. Since it's just me, it has always seemed kind of pointless. Surely the cats and dog don't care. However, this year I am pulling out the stops with lights, tree, stockings at the mantle and red and green candles in the fireplace.
It will be my personal protest against the assault on Christianity and the arguments against Christmas. Even if no one sees it but me and the animals.

And all this time I thought you were Jewish! :D
You underestimate your cats ... they're gonna LOVE (eating) the wires and batting the ornaments! ;D
I generally buy the fattest, fullest tree I can find.
I put on thousands of lights and have a zillion ornaments.
Storing my Christmas decorations takes about a 10 x 12' space in my basement.
I love a Vcitorian tree ...
my tree's not up yet but I think we should all post a pic of our trees on xmas eve.

Well, my mother was Jewish. Which never stopped me from having a tree and singing Oh Holy Night every 12/25. I'm not much for religion so I feel like I can celebrate anyone of them. I used to celebrate all the holidays. Since I've been by myself I haven't celebrated any. Now, so much of what made Christmas special has been incrementally taken away, I don't want to lose whatever is left. This year I'll get a little tree.
I'm sure that Yin-Yang will happily undecorate it every day batting balls around the house. I only get the unbreakable ones anyway. Put little kitty and doggie presents under the tree. We'll have a great time.

I never knew you were Jewish. My gram was Jewish. But we were not raised with that - I always loved Christmas as a kid - still do. It has to be my favorite holiday of all.
I am not Christian - and there are a lot of things I don't like about the religion - but Christmas is wonderful.
IT is a time of giving and sharing and we always adopt a family to feed and give presents to. We raised our children to look forward to the charity of giving - not the selfishness of "getting" for the holidays.
Now that the kids are grown they still enjoy these traditions. My daughter is a touch Christian and likes the holiday for other reasons too - but I can't see how anyone can't like Christmas. It is really spiffy.
I am glad you are decorating - I think you will really enjoy the atmosphere - even if it IS for you and the animals. :)
In the spirit of Christmas, peace and love, Pepsi will refrain from snide remarks and insults to lgllady. Its truce time, a time for understanding and foregiveness.
We have common ground: you love animals, I love animals too. Peace and love to you lgllady in this holiday season.

I'll celebrate any holiday. For the past two years, I've celebrated Eid! If you have never celebrated Eid, you should it is quite yummy! All you do is eat. The only thankfulness is that Ramadan is over and you don't have to fast.

Did you Celebrate Ramadan too?

Heavens no. I only celebrate the eating part not the not eating part.
Middle eastern food, I have to admit is my diet downfall. I adore it, especially Pakistani food and northern India. The paneer is to die for!
My decorations tend toward "traditional" Pagan with a Yule log and lots of mistletoe. I have beaded apples (Avalon) and pomegranates (Ishtar/Persephone) and bells (Feri). For the less Pagan decorations there are my Victorian lace snowflakes and the white lace covered balls. I also have several Snoopy ornaments as well as Hedwig and Harry Potter. A few of the ornaments are handmade. I also have the ornament I received a few years ago at a Yule ritual at a local Unitarian Church.
I do have a lovely battenburg lace angel at the top.
My best friend told me about the tree her dorm decorated back when she was at Agnes Scott. Apparently all the Zelda Fitzgerald wannabes and assorted bad girls ended up in her building; whereas, all the goodie goods ended up in another one. Every year each building decorated a tree. The goodie goods put little teddy bears on their tree and even had a teddy bear nativity *hurl* My friend's building decided to go the other way and actually decorated their tree with tampons and other female hygiene products.

I am a rather simple soul. I have a fake tree which is 15 ft high...but honestly looks like a real Douglas Fir....
Lots of wooden ornaments and such...This year I bought a metal dragonfly and bumblebee....
Lots of greenery and berries and that sort of thing....Also plaid ribbons and pine cones....We have started the Christmas music going as well...mostly classical, but some Nat King Cole, Mannawhatsawhossee Steamroller....etc....

I have a 71/2 foot Noble Fir. I have almost all the lights on...I think I only need about another 200 clear twinkle lights. I haven't done ANY of the outside lights yet. At this rate, I should be done by Valentines day. :)
We did the decorations the day after Thanksgiving. I admit it, I have a FAKE tree. :-[ I am WAY too much of a clean freak to deal with the mess of a real tree. I have different "boxes" of tree decorations, I do a different theme every year. This year, I have all the silver and white stuff on the tree. Silver ribons and bows, silver strung beads, white ribbon, white and silver balls. I also put all my ornaments on the tree, no matter which theme I choose to do. I have oranmanets that my mom has collected for me over the years, little gymanst ornaments, stuff like that. The presents are also all already wrapped and sitting pretty underneath.
The front of the house has white icecle lights on the awenings, my husband did some kind of candy cane thing in the garden (don't ask) and I also used pointsettas and huge bright red bows everywhere.
The mantle has the stockings, Christmas candles, and some of my ceramic santas and snowmen. The buffet table in the front room, usually home to all my photographs, has our lighthouse and village house collection. Also, I'm really congratualting myself on choosing RED felt for the pool table, it looks wonderful with all the Christmas decorations.

What's a "serious" tree? I don't do themes.
I've got boxes and boxes of glass ornaments that have been in the family for the last 60 years. Noble Firs have big "gaps" so you can hang ornaments from the inside out and be able to see them all. This takes a lot of illumination.

Were do you put such a tall tree?
I am still working on putting my lights up outside. Actually I'm dragging my feet because everytime I go out there my lazy neighbors are begging me to assist them with their decorations because (not to gloat) "yours always look so good". One even offered to pay me to do his for him. I told him he couldn't afford me. He also couldn't afford the extra lights I would buy to make it look good.

I love Christmas decorations. The tackier, the better. :)
We used to make own own ornaments when I was a kid. I realize now this was just a way for my mother to keep six kids occupied during the school break. But sloppy old homemade ornaments are still my idea of the best Christmas tree ever.

Can;t wait for my kids to be old enough for that kind of stuff. I have a whole box of "stuff" for crafts, old magazines, paper towel rolls, fabric leftovers, clothes pins, baby food jars, etc.. We used to do stuff like that too, and it was a lot of fun.
My mom kept all those ornaments though.

Bad is in charge of the details. I don't know the answers to these things. Who knows? He may have something else planned by the time I get there...like getting stranded in Mexico for lack of proper identification or some other fun thing. ;D

The Magic Kingdom has a lot of rides for kids, you could do both parks in one day if you just did the "big" rides in the Magic Kingdom. We had a season pass this year, we went three times, so it was worth it. Twice my parents met us there and kept the kid overnight in their room every night. It was great!

Bad - the toilet paper must always be placed on the roll so that it unrolls from the top - or front - otherwise - should you have any trace of uncleanliness (heaven forbid) on your fingers - you will not smudge the wall.
