Special Report: Population Bomb
Part One: Numbers Favor Prolific Pro-Lifers
Posted Dec. 16, 2002
By James P. Lucier

Thirty years ago the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortions in the United States in the case of Roe v. Wade, opening the past three decades to contentious debate over social policy. The battleground has extended not only to the U.S. Congress and the courts, but to the schools and institutions which shape the attitudes of the next generation. The struggle between the pro-lifers and the pro-choicers (as well as those who just don't want to hear about it) is so strong and so deep because it is not just about code words and ideology. It is a bitter conflict about two visions of the future of the nation, and, indeed, the future of humanity..............

Special Report: Population Bomb
Part Two: Pro-Life Stance Paid Off for GOP
Posted Dec. 18, 2002
By Jennifer G. Hickey

Some said it was homeland security, stupid. Others believed it was the economy, stupid. But with a number of 2002 midterm contests decided by less than 10,000 votes, both issues were politically potent. Hardly slipping off the lips of analysts, however, was the always-contentious issue of abortion and the key role it played in a handful of Senate races and, as a result, in shifting control of the chamber from Democratic to Republican hands.................

I think the republicans won because the democrats are idiots!

I vote republican - for business reasons only. I do not support their religious views.

Opposition to abortion is not a religious viewpoint CB. It is a pro-human rights viewpoint which is valid regardless of which God/gods a person does or does NOT believe in. But you are a smart little gal so I expect that you know all of that already.

Are you telling me that the religious right and the pro-life industry do not go hand in hand?

You are engaging in a logical fallacy here.

Because all (or most) of the religious right (protestant fundie extremists like me) are pro-life DOES NOT mean that all/most prolifers are of the religious right. There are plenty of RCC, Mormon, Orthodox Jewish, Muslim, atheist and even pagan pro-lifers. As I said before this is NOT an issue of religion but one of human rights.

Pro-life is a misnomer. If you accept abortion in the case of rape and incest or life of the mother, you are not pro-life. If you believe abortion should be illegal regardless of the circumstances, you likely believe women should be subjugated.

The people who are anti-abortion will either vote for an anti-abortion politician or sit out the election. Most of them are one issue voters anyway. They don't give a shit about anything BUT social control. The remaining voters (which are in the vast majority) vote their pocketbook UNLESS it's an election that involves the security of the nation..then they tend to vote Republican. If it were not for Sept 11th, the midterm elections would have looked a lot different.

Abortion kills a human being each and every time. It just floors me that some folks are so hooked on satisfying their own libido that they are unable to acknowledge that simple truth. That nust be the sort of moral blindness it takes to make one a good libertarian.

I'm sorry...but I don't consider a rapidly dividing cell mass that has the POTENTIAL to develop into a human being the same as a week old baby.

If you're going to be anti-abortion at least be honest about why.

I really thought this was going to go another direction. Here is the direction I thought this was going to go:

Most poor women are too stupid to A) improve their circumstances, and B) remember to use birth control when they have sex, and C) vote democratic in order to have the Federal Sugar Daddy's pay the rent.

Consequently, because abortion is now lawful, it means that these women have effectively taken themselves out of the gene pool for a generation--perhaps as many as 40 million fewer inbred stupid people over the last generation--and a proportionatley smaller number ofd stupid voters who would vote Democratic.

The pro-abortion Democrats are too stupid to realise that by keeping abortion legal, they are eroding their voter base of support--stupid welfare mothers.

One might, of course, flip the coin and call the Republicans stupid for being pro-life and wanting to increase the natural voter base of their opposition.

Anyway that was they way that I thought this thread would go. Please carry on. ;D

Since I don't have an agenda, unlike insight mag and truelies, I think it was the Wellstone funeral. The law of averages was involved as well. We are still cleaning up the clinton years. ::)

Actually, I think the DC-snipers cemented in many people's minds that National Security = Economic Security and it became apprarant that the President was not getting the sort of cooperation needed from the Senate Democrats.

In order to be re-elected, Bush must recognize the need to set the agenda, and get the economy moving.

Much like the Southern slavers or the marxist collectivists you attempt to defend the murders you advocate by pretending that what you kill is not a human being. Biologically a human being is always a human being regardless of how young or old that being is. You yourself by YOUR line of reasoning are nothing more than a slowly growing mass of dividing cells. Your definition of 'human' is simply a social construct devised to allow YOU the latitude to get your jollies without cost.

Opposition to abortion is NOT an issue of religion (you can find large numbers of Americans of any/all Faith traditions who are on opposite sides of this issue. The issue is one of two human rights traditions. On the one hand we have those (who are strong)who see the weak as people to be cherished and protected by the strong, knowing that no power is permanent or assured. On the other we have those who are strong at the moment and see the weak as prey never foreseeing that their own time of weakness will surely come.

The Republicans won because the Democrats have been trying to turn this country into a shithole, and voters don't wan't to move to a shithole, ie. socialist country!!

LAZARUS, you sure obviously hit the nail on that one!! ;D Lott just stepped down. Present federal outlays as a per cent of total outlays are 17% for defense and 64.5% for human resources! Hope someone steps up that can call a spade, a spade, so to speak, without backing down!!! ;D
