View Full Version : Is God material or immaterial?
The God of the Old and New Testaments, does he have form in which if it were possible you could see and feel him? Or, is he 'invisable' and has no form, body or parts?

I believe that at one point he did indeed "manifest "-with-a -body, but that was some time ago.
If you go strictly by the bible - then God has shown himself to have a body several times, and you could conclude that he has a physical form.
If you go by what the bible says.

In yonder heaven, this very moment, does he have a form you could see and feel?

Yes but not the body of a man. God at times has taken on the visible form of a man to interact with His creatures, but that is not His True form which mortal man cannot look upon and live.
You guys are making me do all the research:
Ex.33:23
"And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen."
Dt.23:12-13
"And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig therewith, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee: For the LORD thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp...."
Ezek.1:27
"And saw ... the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward...."
Ezek.8:2
"Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of his loins even downward, fire; and from his loins even upward...."
Hab.3:3-4
"God ... had horns coming out of his hand."
That last one is kinda scary. HORNS coming out of HIS hand!

This is true, the natural eye cannot look upon the glory of God and live.

And your point is?
If these scriptures were true and God lived in Zion instead of the heavens, then he likely would need a body.
Ps.9:11
"The Lord, which dwelleth in Zion."
Ps.76:2
"His dwelling place is in Zion."
Joel 3:17, 21
"So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain .... For the LORD dwelleth in Zion."

The term 'Zion' has a few meanings but generally it means the pure in heart. Zion is a place, a people, a pure in heart people and that indeed is where God dwells.
the Strongs Concordance lists the meaning of Zion as used in the above passages as meaning the City of DAvid, or Jerusalem.

That's one use for the word but basically it means the pure in heart. Jerusalem was meant to be a city for the pure in heart where God's temple was and where he would be.
Whatever. ::)
You never used to go shoving your intrepretation of the bible down everyone's throat and suddenly you start.
The fact is that it doesn't matter how your church told you to view the word "Zion" to make it coincide with what they were feeding you. The fact is that the word that was written in those passages meant exactly one thing. Strong's lists alternated meanings. That word was a physical address.
This is why religion gets so dogmatic and confusing. No one is willing to read the source documents without putting a spin on them.
You can have your thread back. Your mind is closed.

How in the hell am I doing this? I'm over here in Crusades talking about religion and you're telling me I'm shoving my religion down people's throat? It's only discussion here I'm not preaching anything. ::)
