Okay...this is a "different" movie.

Its a over the top send-up of action movies. You have literally everyone double-crossing everyone, and trying to keep the good guys and bad guys straight...well...are there good guys??? Biggest question.

Johnny Depp plays a really amoral CIA agent trying to play all sides in an unstable Mexican coup attempt. Depp again steals the movie and you just never ever know what he's going to do.

From whacky lines "Are you Mexi-can or Mexi-can't?" to walking around with shirts labeled CIA (Clevege Inspection Agency), he really really steals the second movie of the summer.

That said, this movie is NOT for everyone. There is violence galore, but it is so over the top to be nearly laughable. The movie is worth seeing, but I liked Depp in the Pirates better. (If nothing else, its a fun movie.) This movie has its humor spots and Depp again makes it crackle when he is on screen.

Also, given the action nature of the movie, it is probably worth seeing in the theatre, just to get the full impact.

Depp has sold his soul to the whore France.

He's still a great actor. If you haven't seen Pirates, I highly recommend it. Depp chewed up the scenery and spat it back out and actually stole scenes from Geoffrey Rush, which is quite a feat. Of course it's very hard to disappoint me with a costume movie, especially one with pirates.

Yep. I agree with Liz. Pirates was one of the funnest movies I have seen in a while.

Depp made that movie. I don't think anyone else could have played Sparrow as well as he did. Of course he made a kick ass Hunter Thompson as well.

Yes he did. It would be hard for that movie to be as good as it was without Depp in that role. And when you think about it, many of the other roles were pretty good as well. Geoffrey Rush was a hoot as the bad guy. I will probably get this movie on DVD as it is just fun to watch. ILM also did a great job on the skeleton SFX; as close to seamless as it gets when they transisitioned characters to/from skeletons.

Depp seems to take these odd-ball roles and make them...unique, would be the word I would guess. While "Mexico" was not as good or warm as "Pirates" was, his Agent Sands was so totally over the top that you almost had to like the guy...even though you thought he was a slimy worm.

nick: I can admire good work if I do not agree with a person's politics or even lifestyle. Case in point is Ellen in "Finding Nemo". She made that ditzy Dory character perfectly.

I go to movies rarely and when I do, it is to be entertained. Not to wonder about the lead actor's politics or who he supported for President last year.

In the case of "Pirates", you are missing a very good movie. Like I said, "Mexico" ain't for everyone.
