Have the recent round of viruses (the Welchia worm in particular) had any effect on your surfing/downloading speed? If so, a brief description (with dates/times if possible) would be appreciated.

Note: All options above (except #8) assume that your PC was/is not infected.

What I'm looking for here are patterns among the various ISPs and different areas of the country, so lots of answers would certainly be helpful.

Thanks. :)

Last Thursday/Friday/Saturday, especially Saturday, our internet connection was up and down. We have never had any issues with our connection before this in the year that we've been in this house. We are connected by a cable modem.

Tonight our connection is slow, but we are having power flucuations because of the heat so I think it's more the power connection to the modem rather than the connection itself.

BTW, we have four computers connected to this modem by a wireless network. Actually, because my husband i on call this week, his work computer is also up and on the network so we have five on the network. Only three are on at the moment however. :D I don;t know if that makes any difference.

And no, none of our computers were/are infected because we're too smart to open the emails. :D

Neither the Blaster nor the Welchia worm required opening an email. That's what made them SO hard for ISPs to deal with. With Welchia, people had no idea that they were infected. It ran in the background, pumping out ping-traffic, which wreaked havoc on networks. We actually had to call some of our customers (most of our customers) and tell them that they were infected, and were being shut off until they got their machines clean, to keep them from reinfecting others and our internal networks.

The past weekend was absolute HELL. ::)
