View Full Version : Use Your Brain Before You Call Someone Anti-Semitic

12-10-2002, 10:21 AM
If you do not know that there's a difference between anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic - it might be time to head back to school. But not a parochial school as it has not learned the difference itself and can therefore not teach it.

Anti-Semitic is really a misnomer today as it is used because folks tend to mean that someone is Anti-Jew when they say it. Most of them have no idea that Jews are not the only Semitic peoples.

But for the simple minds who apply the term incessantly to anyone who disagrees with them I will stick to the 'anti-jew' description here.

No one who is not religious has any reason to be Anti-Jew. The New Testament introduced anti-jew thoughts into the world. From there they grew. Hitler took a very staunch and traditional Christian stance against the Jews as the killer of his savior. Martin Luther - the Father of the Reformation used the same justification in hating the Jews.

Religion, especially Christianity, is the driving force behind anti-semitism. The New Testament is full of passages attributing hatred of Jesus by the Jews and hatred of the Jews by Jesus's followers.

So when the little brains come out to play and find that someone has said something detrimental about the current state of Israel and its leadership or the funding of it by the US - they fly into a state of denial panic (because it disagrees with the crap they are spoon-fed in church) and it immediately gets the hair on the back of their neck to stand straight up. Then they arch their little backs and they hiss, and they begin to spit out their derogatory names, "anti-semite, jew-basher, pal-lover!"

Nonsense! What reason does a non-religious person have for holding a grudge against the Jews? Why would a non-religious person want to bash them? Why would a non-religioius person wish them any harm?

If you ask yourself those questions honestly - you will have to admit the answer is "NONE".

Non-religious folks simply call it like they see it. Not being a member of a religious cult, like Christianity, we are free to think for ourselves. If we see something amiss in the foreign policy towards Israel, or any other country - we can say it without fear of reprisal from the ladies choir.

You need to understand. All of your crap about 'chosen' and 'not chosen' is only relevant to your little, perverted, world.

You use the terms incorrectly when you apply them to non-religious people - because we dont' give a shit about your superstitions and mythology.

So try really hard to grow up!

Like a bunch of middle school kids.

Suppose I make it easy for you, and just call you an idiot? That way, YOU"LL know what you are, and so will everyone else, with no long (and pointless) explanations required. Jeez. ::)

You DO tend to resort to name-calling quite a bit.

I suppose it is common when the facts are against you.

CherryBomb,

Maybe if you would relax and perhaps take a nap or something you could get this off of your mind and leave it alone instead of wasting bandwidth.

Sometimes I want to be really nasty with a couple of people around here, but then the Prozac kicks in and I forget about it.

Napping pisses me off.

You better not make me take naps after we're married.

OK, CB. I defy you to post a single fact that would indicate to a casual observer that the Palestinian thug-ocracy (or any other Islamic shithole) is the moral equivalent of a free, secular, democratic state like Israel. I won't hold my breath.

I have never said that any Palestinian group had any sort of admirable governing body.

Are you daft?

But you DID mention that Israel was a "free" state.

How come not just anyone can immigrate there, then?

Maybe you should read the topic before posting.

Whoa!

Stop the presses.

CherryBomb may just be my #1 stalker now.

What did I do to deserve this?

How do you make big words like that ? And how do you make them colored?

Knee-jerk unconditional support for Israel OR the Palestinians is not admirable in any way. The surrounding Arab states make Israel look good..but how would they stack up against most other "democratic" nations?

I-RIGHT-I

The little gal does seem to contradict herself quite a bit I've noticed. No real (according to her) reason to hate Jews....maybe just Jews living in the Middle East is what she's talking about. Anti-Zion type of hatred. I've read this entire thread and can't figure it out....It doesn't matter......I really just wanted to say how cool your avatar pic thing is....Warmonger right? Good for you and keep up the fine work you're doing here.

And how do you make them colored?

Aha! So you're racist, too . . . now you have to resign, apologize, and be censured (not necessarily in that order).

Not to be the old fuddy-duddy who gets the thread back on topic, but the idea that "antisemitic" does not mean hatred of Jews, to the exclusion of other semitic peoples, is incorrect. The term originated in Germany, replacing a coarser term meaning "Jew hatred." The American Heritage® Dictionary defines it thusly:
an·ti-Sem·ite (nt-smt, nt-) n.

One who discriminates against or who is hostile toward or prejudiced against Jews
Sorry!

People rarely mention anything remotely religious when discussing why the Jews are evil and should be run out of town...or worse. They frequently talk about how the Jews own everything, ruin this or that, control things, blah blah blah. I've never understood anti-semitism and I never will but your grandiose statements that religion is the only reason or even the main reason for hatred of the Jews are simplistic. The Jews are a race of people just as blacks, hispanics, asians, etc. They have certain tendencies and qualities which are congenital just like any other race. Where someone finds those traits distasteful or threatening you have racism. There are cases of people finding the traits within their own race so distasteful that they actually hate the others of their race. Racism is, IMHO, the absolute depth of ignorance. The pervasiveness of racism is one of the key contributors to my misanthropy.

You know I love you sweetie and I think you are a very clever girl but you have a tendency to extrapolate cause and effect too broadly and make generalizations that simply don't reflect reality. This tendency is most pronounced when you are discussing emotionally charged issues like religion, abortion, etc.

While I agree completely that some religion can get some people all fucked up I contend that those people are going to be fucked up with or without the influence of religion. Most religion is not inherently evil nor corrupting. All human beings are evil and corrupt to some degree so it becomes a matter of how that evil manifests itself in their religion and not the other way around.

I believe you are basically a good person. I believe I am basically a good person. I attend a church and adhere to or practice a religion...if you can call my virtually dogma free Christianity a religion. Your lack of religion and my practice of religion are not what makes us good people. One of my pet peeves is when people decide that religion is what motivates or controls people's behavior. It may provide guidance or justification but people's motives are far too primal to be religious in origin...IMO. Canter argued the point quite extensively and with copious insults, condescension, and four letter descriptors of my character. I still believe that raw emotions and primal desires like greed, lust, love and compassion are what drive humans and that religion is just a construct. Religion does not generate those emotions it only couches them in social forms, rites, and actions toward others.

Canter's example was Mother Theresa. He felt, passionately and violently judging from his colorful and emotional language, that she was motivated by religion. I contended that she was motivated by compassion. You decide for yourself which of us makes more sense.

Don't let your own bad experiences with religion or the fact that a few purely evil people use religion to justify their evil cloud your discernment and make you believe that religion itself is the source of evil. I'll even tell you in one word what the source of all evil in this world is. You look around and see if you don't think I'm right. All evil in this world can eventually be traced back to one thing, selfishness.
