I don't think there's any real subsitute for soapy water and elbow grease when it comes to cleaning, and I'm sure most of the newer gadgets designed to make life easier are not the most environmentally sound ways of going about it. However, I have just discovered the Swiffer Wet. And I am glad.

Easy way to swab the worst of the dirt off the tile floors. I'm thinking I can get by without mopping for months this way. :)

I just have the dry one and purchased it a few months ago. The first time I used it I was in awe. I could not believe the cat hair and dust it picked up off the floors. I went around for weeks telling everyone how great it was. :)

Might wanna try it out on the rest of that rat's nest you've got going there.

Fuck you.

Yeah, I can imagine your place, the men I know don't clean (until you bug, bug, bug them until they do it just to get you off their backs). ;)

Suth,

they are def cool, esp if you can pick one up at WM with a dollar off coupon for the refills....

concerned about germs...pretreat the parts of the floor you like withaerosal disinfectant...wait a few minutes then swiffer....some of these quaternaries used to kill stuff in hospitals are available from ZEp at home depot and can be diluted down to pump spray bottles....cheaper that way..also for the trash cans inside n out.........I uses to sell sanitation chemicals for EcoLab

Cool. I will certainly keep this in mind. I actually did spray some plain water on a couple of spots before I Swiffered. The spots I was afraid wouldn't come up did that way. Next time, I'll use the disinfectant.

Nah, his underwear is not really the problem, they are usually on the floor but at least it's the floor in the vicinity of the clothes hamper.

But he leaves his dirty socks everywhere. I'd find them underneath the sofa cushions, under the coffee table, under the bed. Drives me nuts.

Hey, it's one of my few phobias. I'm a clean freak. What the hell am I living with two cats and a typical sloppy man? ;D

I have the swiffer wet jet because we have pergo everywhere except the bedrooms and kitchen. I use the swiffer in the kitchen everyday, but I still wash the floor on my hands and knees once a week. But, I may have told ya'll before, I'm a little anal retentive about housework. :D

You know, I've been thinking of this ever since I've met you and you told me the first time about Coop's "undie" character trait...and I have a question for you...

Does he ever have to pick up your dirty underwear? I suspect not because I assume that you pick it up yourself...but let's say you "forgot" one time. Would he? I would again assume no...so, therefore...

I can only further assume that this "trait" of his is an indirect, if not a direct, insult to you, especially since he knows you don't like it.

I find that rude of him and if I were you, I wouldn't put out for him a month for every time you had to pick up his stinky BVD's.

Another cleaner tip.....liquid cleaners..I uses several in increasing strength ...from fairly neutral like Simple Green, to stronger like Orange Clean...to quite alkaline like the puple Super Clean....and finally a bleach n cleaner combo...generic or store brand...

Dont ever buy this stuff in the pump spray sizes unless you need the pump spray packaging.... Usally Home Depot has a Zep equivalent for each in coincentrate..

I never buy the brand named Orange Clean...Ive had 1 gallon of Zep orange concentrate and have diluted it down for nearly 4 years....

the small pkging is a ripoff

I'm afraid to get in the habbit of using those things. I keep imagining that in no time there'll be this build-up of crud against the cabinets.
If Swiffers really pick it all up instead of pushing the dirt into a corner, I'd like to hear about it.
I still wash the floors on my hands and knees, then use a toothbruch for along the carpet strips. Congoleum said to use Brite, so that's what I use, but I really wouldn't mind quitting this crap.

Swiffers do a pretty good job of picking up dirt, but they aren't a substitute for the old hand and knees approach. They are really good for "in between" cleans, though. I always sweep first, but there is still a lot of cat hair and such stuck to the Swiffer when I'm done. I've been amazed by what they will pick up.

How often do you clean your floors? The Swiffer might be an easy way to go a little longer between cleanings.

Jeny says she Swiffers daily and scrubs weekly...but then Jeny hasn't had her second baby yet, so we're still waiting to see if she keeps that up. :)

09-01-2003, 06:58 AM
I keep a rag under the sink for daily spills, but only wash once a week now that there's just the 2 of us in the house.
I sweep daily, though, and swear by O'Cedar.
I used to be at least as bad as Jeny. Then I found out sticking sponges to the rug rats' knees worked pretty good, if you don't mind streaks. ;D

Hey...a woman after my own mop.

I would prefer to clean my floor on my hands and knees. I think they get cleaner that way, and I do that maybe once or twice a year. But I'm just not able to do it more often. My knees can't take it.

I'm feeling pretty good about giving myself permission to take some shortcuts. It can all seem pretty insurmountable sometimes.

Not feeling guilty is best. I just try to make sure the cat doesn't eat off the floor.... ;D

I also have one of these steam-deals I got on sale at Walmart. It kills germs, but I made the mistake of trying to guide it with my foot the second time I tried it...It also burns!

Usually I take old towels and sashay around the kitchen swiping up the excess water after the clorox job...Great exercise and a way to improve your dance routine!

Can't help it. I'd almost forgotten about this. Once when the kids were around 7 & 8 yrs. (?) they had their buddies over, and while I was outside they decided they were gonna do me proud and wash the kitchen floor.
Step 1, dump a gallon of soapy water on the floor.
Step 2, move as fast as you can before Mom walks in the door!

She did. :o Holy crap! Do you have any idea how hard it was not to have a cow? ;D
Isn't it great we're all alive to laugh about it today?

House work is like therapy to me. As I did with Lex when she was a babe, I'll stick this one in the sling and get on with life. Lex is pretty good at playing by herself. Lately she's been sweeping the floor with the swiffer. She accomplishes nothing, but it's cute. :D

Feminsts are going to be pissed. A woman that likes to clean, likes having babies, loves breasfeeding. Hope you don't like to cook for your husband otherwise they might put a mark on your head.

If I can piss a feminist a day off, I have made the world a better place. :D

Actually, I love being a wife and mother, I was built for it. If I had an asshole husband though, I could see where it might be a drag.

Another one who likes cleaning! I thought I was all alone in the world.

I like creating order out of chaos, seeing the dull shine and coming home to a clean house that smells good. The animals like it too. They like nothing more than to curl up on a made bed with clean sheets and aired comforter.

Everyone tells us we're supposed to hate it. I don't. It's good exercise too, if you do it to music.

Cats can sense a bed being made miles away. :D
