View Full Version : Avatar Sizes

Avatar sizes have somewhat gotten out of hand. This causes several problems, not the least of which is higher bandwidth consumption and poor board performance.
I'd like to "request" that people limit the size of their avatars to 100 pixels in either dimension. If you need help resizing your avatar or a place to park it, feel free to e-mail it to me and I'll be more than happy to take care of it for you.
I have resized mine as well as it was outside these size guidelines.

Its not a $$$ thing now and I don't want it to ever be one. Perhaps the biggest issue is that some of the really oversize avatars are distracting as hell.
They do slow the loading of the board down too and that has nothing to do with bandwidth or $$$. It has everything to do with how well this thing works for you guys.
The computer idiots of the world would like to point out that some of us morons don't know what a pixil is, so a private and polite heads up would be appreciated if we accidently break this rule. :D

Well, you will note that I don't have an avatar. I don't need no steenking avatar to prove that I'm an asshole! <proud beaming smile>

Jeny: An easy way to find out is to right click on your picture, click on properties, and it will tell you. Yours is 100x99 so you're fine.
Bad: I'm just trying to get a handle on the extreme cases (and they know who they are!) without enabling a feature on the forum to force sizes.

Are you having difficulty seeing my tongue firmly planted in my cheek or something?

Mine is 100x105, and I don't have time to fiddle with it right now. Please don't be mad.

I figured you could just chop off the hand and keep the asshole. New people might think it was a sunburst or something, but we'd still know, and it wouldn't take them long to figure it out.

What's all this avatar stuff anyway? Sounds like one of them funny swords them Muslimes use to slay the infidel, which is me, so . . . no, wait, that's a scimitar, never mind.
What's all this pixel stuff anyway? I don't want nothing to do with no fairy-type critturs ('lessin' it's one of them nekkid gals like Lizzie had for a while there) no how . . .

;D ;D ;D Thanks BN, but whoever this gentle good looking soul is, may not like to be likened to the likeness of buzsaw. ;D
I like the comic guy, "themostist" or something like that if I can figure out howta get it on my profile.
Actually, BN, if your guy poses no legal problems for Lance and if somebody will install him for me, I'll go with him. Thanks. 8)

Much obliged, Lance. I must say that indeed you go the "extra mile" to make us all feel at home here. May God bless you for it, regardless of whether you believe in him or not. You probably know that Jesus said, "If you've done it to the least of these, my brothers, you've done it to me." 8)
Btw, anybody have any idea who this handsome feller is? With a little fixin of the hat n a cigar, he'd make a good Chruchill. (No thanks on the cigar for me though I'll save the smokes for the Sky.) ;D

Buzz, this was "a guy" that played Rip Van Winkle in a play long, long ago. I almost saved the info for you, but at the moment, I wasn't thinking straight. I didn't think you would have been interested.

I try and wear two different "hats" here. I'll debate with the best of 'em (when I ever get the time!!!) as Lance, but The Guardian has a slightly different set of responsibilities.
I want to make this a nice, fun, and comfortable place to be. I also want folks to be able to express their opinions, without fear of being hammered because of someone's ideological agenda. There are few rules here and there are some things that will earn you a vacation. But not darn much. And just because disagree with you is NOT a reason to shut you up via some kind of censoring.
To paraphrase Ed, the folks misbehaving get sent to the NoPC basement to sort it all out. ;D

Well, at least mine wasn't the biggest (damn, I seem to say that a lot...). Since I sent mine to you, perhaps you would be good enough to shrink it down (Christ, I can't believe I just typed that) to fit the desired parameters.
Much obliged.

I need a program that will allow me to change the size of pictures using cm as measurement, and that can cut of people’s heads / transparent background ;)
Suggestions?

I use ACDC (shareware) to make avatars; it’s really easy to change the size of the picture there. I use Microsoft gif animator (free) to make animated avatars (see Heather Nova gif).

Depending on your budget, the BEST of all pixel based orgrams BAR NONE is Adobe Photoshop. I believe that one cans still downlaod a TRY-OUT version of Adobe Photoshop You might find that you enjoy using it enough to buy it

Once mastered, you literally own the Ferrari of image editing programs~!!
I did design for years before the Adobe comapny was BORN, and as such it was quite a struggle initially for me to get a handle on the entirely NEW WORLD of possibilities available by all these great tools.
Nothing else comes CLOSE~to Photoshop!!
