Excerpt: Scientists issued a fresh warning today: The northern Caribbean may be at a high risk for a major tsunami, based on historical records that date back to Columbus’ arrival in 1492.
A tsunami in this region could affect more than 35 million people on the islands of the Greater and Lesser Antilles and along the east and Gulf coasts of the United States. The danger has been highlighted in previous research.
The major source for past tsunamis in the northern Caribbean has been movement along the boundary between the North American and Caribbean tectonic plates. This fault line stretches 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) from Central America to the Lesser Antilles, brushing up against the north coast of Hispaniola (the island of Haiti and the Dominican Republic). Annie, when you move to the Caymans...you have the best of all worlds. They get earthquakes, Tsunamis, and hurricanes (quite frequently) there.
I'm tellin' ya...don't expect 100% in paradise time while you live there. it's a friggin' island. Nothing comes "easy" there.

Price you pay to live in paradise I guess.
The one that scares me the most, Tsunamis. I grew up with earth quakes and here we get tornado warnings left and right. Hurricanes can be predicted and you can leave. But those huge waves that come out of the water like that.....very scary...

Tsunamis can be predicted as well. Once an earthquake occurs, and the sea has risen its one to two (or a little more) centimeters, the warning systems get triggered. You don't have much time (depending on the area), but you'll at least know.

Do they have those warning systoms in place? All I would need is a few minutes to grab the life vests and get up high...
In CA I grew up in a town just at the base of some foothills and a lake named Lake Berryessa; it is near Napa Valley. LakeBerryessa is a very large and very deep lake with a damn and glory hole. We were told if the damn broke we would have less than 9 minutes (I think it's 9 maybe less) to get out of town or up high. So I lived with that fear for 30 years. The damn itself is fine but they worried with an earthquake it wouldn't take much for it to let loose.
I guess my point is...we choose nice places to live and we live with the danger that comes with it.
