Forget not that I shall come back to you.
A little while, and my longing shall gather dust and foam for another body.
A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.
Farewell to you and the youth I have spent with you.
It was but yesterday we met in a dream.
You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longings have built a tower in the sky.
But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn.
The noontide is upon us and our half waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part.
If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song.
And if our hands should meet in another dream, we shall build another tower in the sky.
So saying he made a signal to the seamen, and straightaway they weighed anchor and cast the ship loose from its moorings, and they moved eastward.
And a cry came from the people as from a single heart, and it rose the dusk and was carried out over the sea like a great trumpeting.
Only Almitra was silent, gazing after the ship until it had vanished into the mist.
And when all the people were dispersed she still stood alone upon the sea-wall, remembering in her heart his saying,
A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.

She's mostly been busy with Mommy-stuff. Yesterday while she was doing the hair/makeup thing, Sarabeth was playing in the bathroom cabinet as usual (bath toys, soap, toilet paper, y'know...non-toxic stuff). The Wife turns around to check on the cherub, who has this huge "look at me!" grin on her face, and who has 'done her OWN hair'...with Vaseline. Handfuls of Vaseline. ::)

(After FOUR washings with Joy dish detergent (lemon), most of it came out. She's sleeping tonight with cornstarch in her hair to soak up the rest. God, what a mess.)

The joys of parenting. ;D

Alexa's first word was "Daddy" and it irked me too. Of course right now she's going through that seperation anxiety phase and she is CONSTANTLY yelling MAMA!!! at the top of her lungs. Yeah, I love it. ;D

With my mother in law around, I'm waiting for her to come out with "fuck" since that's the word that comes out my my MIL's mouth before and after every other word she says.

My first word was titty.

I know, but i can take a little teasing. You know, I can dish it AND take it. :-*

I don't know how it came to be...it's just what she says. She might be trying to say "milk" who knows? I used to sign and say "milk please" whenever we nursed, so maybe she is trying to say it...

Is she (or someone in your family) hearing-impaired?

My mom. I'm learning as we go, my mom's hearing loss is progressive, she is legally deaf, although she can still hear a little out of one ear.

It's good that you're already teaching Alexa. Their absorption rate at her age is enormous. :)

LaL: I believe this guy was a Muslim. Is that correct?

BTW, it is a great poem.

Well I used to walk around with my eyes on fire
My nerves real close to my skin
Had a fist full of questions a brand on my cheek
And we would skate where the ice got thin

And the smoke blowin' down from a cabin on a hilltop
Smoke blowin' down in the street
Some kind of sweet smellin' mystical backdrop
To the story unfolding at my feet

There's an edge to the twist of an acrobat in the air
There's an edge to the twist of a knife
There's a hard heart of darkness hovering there
Just around the corner from life

And I have no answers
I got no patented path to set you free
Besides I wouldn't know where you wanted to go
And it's probably not the same place as me

Now there's a thousand roads up this mountain
You can get lost in a minute if you try
And it's probably enough that I was laughing today
And lookin' this close in your eye
