View Full Version : PDA or Pocket PC?
My old Palm IIIxe is not big enough for my 'data' and I'm thinking of buying a Tungsten T. Does anybody have any thoughts between a PDA or Pocket PC? Is Palm recommended by anybody?
Size and resolution are important with this choice.

I, personally, like the PocketPCs-as they are a relatively seamless transition from Windows OS to PDA.
From what I can see on the Tungsten-it only has Bluetooth wireless. Well, with the Pocket PCs you can get a sled that you can put (if you have one) a wi-fi card in.
If you have a lot of stuff in your palm though-I'd stick with palm, but if you use outlook a lot-and are concerned about not having to do much except take it out of the box, and get the same (not just compatible) software products as your PC-I'd go with the pocket pc.

I have a pocket PC. An IPAQ. I love it. I have an expansion card and a whole lot of room for my stuff. For instance, I have four e-book bestsellers in my pocket library. I also have a picture album on my IPAQ.
I cannot imagine life without my IPAQ. I would recommend it to anyone (I got one for a friend for graduation and going off to college). There is a lot of programs for it, including games for when one is waiting.

lgllady: That good? I have been resisting getting a pocket device just because I know the technology is changing so quickly. But my old Franklin is getting kind of bulky..
Is that a PDA in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?

Well, it's all going to be dependent on what you are going to use the PDA for. Do you have a need to use VNC or Terminal Services, check email, browse the web, work on Word docs or Excel spreadsheets?
If not-a PocketPC may be overkill-and one of the low cost Palm's or even a newer basic PDA would be your best bet.

I'm going with Palm Tungsten. I have no desire to get on the web and it's the best for what I need it for. It has expansion, 16mb or 32mb. Palm just lowered the price. Has a voice recorder on it. Resolution is 320x320 (high resolution).

Probably my use would be more along the lines of an e-planner versus a portable browser, e-mail, et al.
I can get to e-mail from just about anywhere as it is.

I don't use mine for any internet services. I do work on a lot of word documents which is great because it will synch right with my desktop word and I can send a doc back and forth. Mine has a voice recorder too.
