Of course, this request for information is open to all, just directed at Guido because of his expertise. ;D
We have a slow draining drain in the shower. We've taken both a plunger and snake to it - it doesn't appear to be plugged. Being who I am, I'd prefer not to use harsh chemicals bought at the hardware store.
Anything else I can do?

Being who you are (Dirt Mamma) I'd say you shouldn't have a problem not bathing. But just in case Coop needs to wash up a bit I'd say go rent one of those industrial strength roto-router machines and cut the roots and crap out of your sewer line. If you have a septic tank then get the bio-chemicals that are supposed to go in there and wait. If none of that works then you have a real problem and you'll need to get down on you knees, put your lips to the drain...and blow. If your breath doesn't clear the line nothing will.

Boiling water seems to work in my kitchen drain to help break up anything but you will prolly have to use chemicals, and keep your septic clean regularly with things such as Rid-X.

Yes.
Everything is working fine except that the shower drain is slow draining. I want to fix that if I can.

How long have you had the problem?
How old is the house?
I found this (http://www.handymanwire.com/questions/tubshowerq.html)
Scroll down just a bit. Hope it helps. I'm sure there are other sites as well if ya Google it.

Well there ya go, you pissed me off even after I tried to help that cow.
Kathleen,
Most shower drain clogs are due to hair.
1. Get an off the shelf drain opener and use it.
2. After using it, plung away.
3. Once you get the hair-ball plunged up, get a
plastic drain screen for your shower.
4. If you believe you have tree roots in your septic
system or sewer line, use an ounce of copper
sulphate DAILY down your drain, this kills tree
roots in the system without killing the tree. Keep
applying it untill the drain is clear. You can by
copper sulphate at garden shops or hardware
stores.

Kathleen.........I'm really sorry. I missed this thread.
I don't usually spend much time in this forum.
I assume by now you've solved your problem, but for what it's worth I'll throw my 2 cents in anyway for some of the lurkers.
Since it's ONLY your shower drain that is slow, I'd ignore IRI's advice. ONLY, and I repeat....ONLY a professional should run a large sewer machine especially when there is a possible tree root condition. I've seen some of the most experienced guys get wrapped in their own cables.
I don't usually use chemical drain cleaner on the job (It looks unprofessional) but some DO work. Over the counter stuff you buy at Kroger sucks. I usually remove the shower strainer and run a small drill snake down the drain. It will go through a 2" p-trap easily.
If you want to try a chemical cleaner, I highly recommend this:

Your drain must be able to drain just a little for it to work though because it takes hot water to activate it.
Remove the strainer if you can and run a little HOT water through the line to warm up the drain line. After that, let the HOT water come up just to the top of the drain and pour about a half cup in and keep your face away from the fumes. You'll hear it bubble and sizzle and it should wash the plug away in a few seconds.
Thrift is save for all shower surfaces and doesn't harm chrome!

All those answers and yet it is still plugged?
When was the shower installed? Who did the plumbing? You may need to see if the plumbing has the proper P-Trap and venting.
