There were many people who believed there to be a rather "fetching" ghost who lived in an old Southern mansion not far from where I grew up....over the years, she was apparently sighted by any number of people...I never wanted to go try to seek her out, but.....one never knows....../

Good topic Bib. :)
Do I find it intriguing? Why yes, very much so, but what don't I find intriguing? ;)
Do I believe in ghosts? Well, until I actually see one, the answer is no.
I did have a dream of my grandmother shortly after she died (I was 10 years old) and I can't shake the feeling that it was a visit rather than some psychological response to her death, but who knows, eh? I readily admit it could be the fanciful imaginings of a child and nothing more.
Have heard some awesome ghost stories at various times of my life that scared the snot out of me. And if ever presented with the opportunity to explore a "haunted house/place", hell yes, I wouldn't hesitate a moment.
I'd probably take some kind of weapon with me though. Never know when it will come in handy. ;D

I think the idea is fasinating...I do believe the dead have a great deal to say and I do believe we can hear them. I am very open to this concept. Is it because I want to believe? I don't think so....I just feel if my life ended suddenly...I'd want to communicate...it's what we do...when we are alive. Why would death stifle our needs to communicate? I love the concept...I want to see this movie..

Makes as much sense as a belief in any supernatural entities. On the other hand, there must be some basis for the funeral processes of so many different peoples, all designed to make sure that the "spirit" of the dead person goes on its way quickly, and doesn't hang aroung to cause those still living some grief. That concern is also behind the "speak no ill of the dead" thingy. ;)

I believe that ghosts are real and that they are demonic manifestations. Not unlike Hillary Clinton.

;D I agree Htilery is a demon but I thinks she's a real, live, breathing one.
Interesting comment though, I would've thought you would not believe in ghosts at all. That you think they are only bad ones really puzzles me.
I mean, if they are disincarnate spirits, then just like in this life, there must be good and bad on that side, too, no?

I don;t buy into the haunted house thingy like you see in spooky movies.
I also don't think that mediumship as is portrayed in media is real.
I don't think seances bringing Elvis or Marilyn back are anything more than parlor tricks.
But I DO think that there are dimensions within our universe which we don't have working knowledge and simply because we don't know of them does not mean they don't exist.
Have you ever lost someone especially close and especially suddenly?
I have and I do think they've made it their business to touch base before they moved on.
There is of course anecdotal evidence from others, zillions of books, etc. But I do think that you really have to be there, in the situation. You need not bring an open mind to the happenstance but should it ever happen to you, your mind does open.

It seems to me that the dividing line automatically develops between those who believe there is life after death or not.
But I don't think it begins or ends there. I think that when someone who believes that dead is dead as with O, is not immune entirely to the experience, should someone on the other side insist on gaining his attention.
The law of pysics says that matter never can be destroyed, only changed. If one believes that all there is to the life force is a fortuitious and well working combination of electrical type signals keeping everything working, then they I think, are behind the open minded 8 ball.
But if one believes that there is another life force component to our natures, then the idea of morphing ... "passing" to the other side does not find it such a stretch to draw the conclusion that the intellect lives on in some form or another.

Not only matter, but energy can't be destroyed, only changed. Like the energy of a waterfall is changed to light a bulb. If there is some sort of energy and there has to be, that animates us, that is a composition of our souls, what happens to that energy after death?
There are very few people who have never had any kind of experience. Some dismiss it, others accept it. There are far to many of them, all over the world for it to be entirely an imagining.

I am starting to think I logged on to a thread that is stuck somewhere around the 13th Century, or so.
Ghosts... ;D
Why don't you guys roll the bones and tell me what the weather is going to be like next week?

Just play with the concept and have fun with it.
Like the 24 Virginians? ;D
The realm of possibilites can be fun to think about whether it's possible or real is not the issue.
It's the fun. It's entertainment.

There are other threads (you know which subject I refer to) that fall into that catagory as well. ;)

I've already expressed my "doubt" about this.
But I still think it would be awesome to explore a so called haunted place. Particularly a graveyard on a dark and stormy night. :o ;D
That would be extremely interesting.

When I was in summer camp one year (middle school years) we camped out in a Confederate graveyard in North Carolina. Was kinda spooky.
I don't believe in ghosts or that the dead can communicate with the living. That is not to say I don't believe we "go on" when we die. :)

I used to be "kept" by an artist who did grave rubbings for a hobby/living. Quite interesting on those dark nights in cemetaries that were several hundred years old, i.e. Charleston, S.C.

Eesh...this movie is getting totally annihilated in the reviewing circle. "Extremely boring and bad" was one review.
Looks like a HBO movie for me.

I don't listen to reviews. I like to be my own judge.
The thing about ghosts that I find interesting...it doesn't scare me. I must have an open mind and I'm pretty secure in my own spirit...so I'm ready...bring em on. I think there is communication from the other side. I hope to wittness it someday. When you have lost a loved one (I lost my brother) you tend to want to believe you can communicate. I't normal to want that if you lost someone that died too young.

I don't understand what makes this normal? I've had several close friends die very young. The first when I was in 6th grade. The next two in the 8th grade. Then a couple when I was in high school. I can't ever remember wanting to communicate with them after they died. Granted they were not loved ones but the first three were best friends whom I spent lots of time with.
