Picasso was not making a blanket statement about all war being evil. He was making a point that the deliberate targeting of non military forces is wrong. Which is what happened at Guernica.
Careful Liz. My grandfather fought with the nationalists there. This issue is a bit more sensitive for me than other people.

I'm sorry honey. I see it the way history sees it. The Germans used places like Guernica for target practice to prepare for making war against France, England and Russia.
But we had two choices: The communists. The nationalists.
They were both bad sides. But to choose the lesser of the two evils, I would have to go with the nationalists. Afterall, Franco built my country up. If we chose the communists, we would be a third world country.
Thales, I was doing nothing of the sort.

I agree, you were damned either way, but it doesn't change the fact that Guernica had no discernable military value, and was in fact an open city with hardly more than women, children and old men in it.
Thales... you misinterpret... I wasn't silencing anybody. I shouldn't be. Sorry if it was interpreted that way.
Liz, if we didn't have Franco... then we would be between a rock and hard place like some Eastern bloc countries today. Franco did a lot of good things. But Guernica will not be forgotten as it was an atrocity.

I knew what you were saying, and I would never try to judge any of the Spanish Nationalists, as I wasn't there at the time.

I was not there but I have seen the original painting by Picasso.
Do y'all know about Picasso?
Well for one thing, his most brilliant paintings. in my way of thinking, were painted from the time he was fourteen until his early 30's...He was brilliant and he loved Spain, his motherland............
He disliked the French for their attitude towards Spanish culture. He chose not to live in Spain for political reasons (Picasso was a socialist)..............

LaL: Well, If I was going to make a blanket statement, this time of the year in Wyoming, I'd make it under the blankets; but Picasso was right. Targeting non-military forces is always wrong, and it is not only wrong morally. It is wrong militarily, and here's why:
When the rest of the world sees what you've done, they are always going to gang up and kick your butt, militarily. And when your own men see what they have had to do, they will not have the motivation to stop them. It is how great military forces self-destruct.
