Ya know that show where they come into your house and get rid of all the unnecessaries?
Well..I made the decision while trying to get the organized confusion of 4 kids ready for christmas..I am going to "clean sweep" my own house.
The downsatirs is ok.. but the kids rooms.. WOW!
So.. when they get back to school and i get a day off tht they are gone, I'm gonna start.. room by room.. 8)
I'm so excited. :P

I doubt you and your daughters are going to agree on what constitutes "unnecessaries".
That's why you'll do it when they aren't home. ;D

God, I can hear the wails of Pain and Despair all the way down here in Kansas.

Yep.
I suspect that there'll be plenty of wailing and despairing when Pony puts her plan in action.
It all makes sense. Logically, it would be better to get the girls themselves involved in the process, picking and choosing what they want to keep and what they want to throw out.
The fact that Pony plans to do this by herself suggests there would be a problem going the logical route. What a sneaky (but awfully smart) thing for Pony to do. ;D

To be honest, it sounds like it would cause more hurt feelings than it is worth. There is no way to know what value a kid places on a piece of "junk." Have them go through their own things.

Maybe you should just give them fair warning..."if you don't go through and get rid of some of this junk, I'm going to do it for you."
Ixnay on the room-by-room plan unless it's all done on the same day. They'll get wise to it and start thinking "Hey, she hates me the most because she threw away my stuff first."
I can hear the sniffling now.

Have them decide what they want and don't want. If you do it yourself you'll have some pissed off kids.

Well..it's not like I haven't asked, begged and attempted to brobe them into cleaning it themselves..

I'd still tell them you're going to start throwing their stuff away if they don't clean it up before you do it. I would have had my feelings hurt so badly I'd still be crying if my mother had started throwing away my crap when I was a kid.

Fine! <12 yr old eye rolling>
I'll tell them that I'm going to do this in the New Year. They have the remainder of the holidays to fix their shit up. And I'll tell them Aunti Suth saved their asses and they should be grateful. ;D

I have found that kids always take a 'student' approach to deadines. They will wait until you actually appear in their room with a plastic bag and a shovel. Then they will start to scramble. Doesn't matter if you give them a day, a week or a year. ;)

I hope you are doing the right thing. I hope they get their asses in gear and keep the stuff they do want, and throw the stuff away that they don't want, before you get your garbage bag ready and do it yourself.

My boys used to hate seeing me coming with the heavy duty large black garbage sacks. They knew I'd had enough of them doing diddly squat. This was every 6 months or so whether they felt the room needed an overhaul or not. I would hear pleads of, 'no mom not the black bags'... of course that fell on deaf ears. I made them help me every step of the way. I'd hold up an item and question, "save or throw". If they said 'save' I'd say, 'find a place for it besides the floor or under your bed'. ;D

I used to babysit my brother's boys a lot when I was a teeneager. My oldest nephew was a bit of a "architect". He once unbent paperclips and stapled them with points upright onto a board into a "structure". I was sleeping over, and a thunderstorm blew up. My sisterinlaw flew into the room in bare feet to close the windows and stepped on the structrue.. ;D ;D ;D
The language was shocking.... ;D ;D
