Seriously... when I retire... I'm going to open a little roadside stand and sell trash can lids...

that's what mom and dad said. They retired and then they both got their rela estate licenses and are selling houses in Palm Springs as a team. disgustingly cute, huh?

My dad's been retired now for 4 years. If the new owner of his company can make his final large payment, Mom and Dad are moving to Florida next year.

He couldn't be happier.

When my parents retired they started running a halfway house for evangelical missionaries. Or something like that.

Bad news needs a new category called Work until you drop dead on the job. That's probably what I will do.

I'm a little surprised he didn't put "marry someone who makes more money than you do...every time you get married."

On the serious side its kinda scary that the majority of American 50 year olds have less than $5K put back for retirement.

If the government would just give them back all the money the stole from their paychecks all at once instead of doling it out a little at a time, waiting for one or both to die so they can keep the balance.....

Absolutely, Jeny.

Basic rule of economics - don't spend more than you take it.

Something the government has yet to learn. :(

I know I've told this story a million times, but ti pisses me off so much, I'll tell it again...

My Mohter in law is of retirement age, in one or two years. So, she can collect her social security. Her husband died 5 years ago, sudden heart attack, it was terribly sad, they had been married for almost 40 years, high school sweethearts, so much in love. Well, you would figure, she is her husband;s RIGHTFUL heir, so of course she should be bale to collect his social security, since the money is HIS. and she stopped working for 20 years while she raised their kids.

Yes, she can collect his social security, of course, but she had to forfeit HER social security. SHe worked for many years as a legal secretary, they didn't have their kids until they were in their 30's even though they maried when she was 17. She paid money in, but she cannot collect it? Th government gets to KEPP it!!!!!

It makes me so mad, WHY do they get to keep it??????

Know what? That's not a bad idea. Another good idea? Vending machines. The only problem you would have would be the "routes" (places of business) that you would have to service. There is so much money to be made in that area, it's pathetic.

This has always been on the back of my mind.

Lots of people have suggested that I have a road-side stand selling bbq'd ribs, chicken and such. "They" say I'd make a bazillion doing that.

Maybe I'll get one of those metal detecters and live at the beach. :)

Put the car wash next to a coin-op laundry and you would be set. When I was in college and had to use the laundramat, I would go down the street and wash my car while all my loads were washing, just to kill the time and becauee I already had all those quarters. Put some video games in the laundramat, and a few of those soda/candy/coffee vending machines all together in one little do it all complex next to a college and you would be set.

I have an idea for a computer program that would make several people semi-wealthy...........I just don't know how to do it...........yet

At this point I'll be lucky to get a trailer and metal detector in the desert.............But really I wouldn't mind that to much either. I'm just tired...........

I was thinking next to a friends pizza and beer joint........he's also got a tranny shop at the other end of the strip. It's a party town with outdoor type activities where peoples vehicles get pretty trashed and dirty................good place to stop before heading home.
