Does anybody have one of those ionizing air purifiers? Do they work? Are they worth it?

Not Ionic Breeze, but I have a better one. It's the kind that professionals use in fire and smoke damaged buildings.

They work. Not worth it, though.

I'd like to know that as well. Are they as effective as a hepa filter?

They are FAR more effective than a HEPA filter and a fraction of the cost to operate. Some of those HEPA's cost almost $75 per month in electricity to operate. I shit you not!! Plus the pre-filter (charcoal) and the HEPA ain't no chump change to replace, either.

They have a sale on them right now at the mall. Buy one, get one half off. It comes to about $400 for two. Maybe a little more. I was wondering how much they would help with allergies.

I've got a mechanical cleaner on the furnace with UV lights and I run hepa cleaners in the bedrooms. That has saved my ass during allergy season and I haven't had an upper respiratory infection in ages.

This is the one I've got that covers 3,500 sq. feet...not that I need it for that, but some day I might. Works through walls so you don't need two of them. I know the local dealer in this area so I can get it for you for cost if you're interested.

It does help with allergies. You can probably get your doctor to issue you a prescription for one.

What they basically do is they charge the "dust" particles with a positive ion and cause them to not float all around the place. Makes them drop to the surface and not get disturbed.

They also have a "filter" (kind of) that causes certain particulates to adhere to the plate inside of the unit.

I had a sharper image quadra for awhile. I got it at a garage sale for $5.00! It finally up and died after about a year. But, it worked GREAT while I had it! It did the whole house, but I live in a postage stamp sized house. I have two cats and a dog in my 500 sq ft and there was no smell at all, not even at the cat box. Since Quadra died, I got a couple of the True Air filters that just plug into the wall, and they work okay in small areas, and all I got are small areas.

To remove a bad odor, I got one of the new Oust battery operated air cleaners and it works too. I put on by the litter box, and I have one in my shop.

Have the sharper image one and you definitely notice the difference in the room that it's in.

I got 2 ionic breezes about 2 1/2 years ago on sale, and have just used one in room with computer (only other place I smoke is outside), as I smoke about 1.5 packs a day. Figure to use the other when this one quits. Ads say clean every 2 weeks, but with smoke it's every 4 or 5 days. I use a paper towel and Isopropyl alcohol. Imagine cleaning 3 metal grid plates on both sides every 5 days (15 minute job) and and the towel being 75% black. My wife said it got rid of odor better the first six months, but it still has helped her allergies more than 2 big honeywell hepa air filters we had, and then she sold. The ionic breeze is quiet, cheap to operate, slowly moves air thru it, but designed to use 24/7. It eventually cleans air in whole house with central H&A, but definitely not a whole house air cleaner (still helps more than hepa). With no smoke, cleaning would be every 2 weeks and probably a 2 minute job with a damp towel. I think they used to have a 60 day period to return and get refund, if not satisfied. Philips makes a UV light for kitchen etc.

Flyrod quit smoking for your wife's sake :( . Seriously her allergies could turn into asthma. I have asthma it sucks I am on 8 medicines a day to breathe.

Sock, my wife's sake? Hell what about me dammit?? Actually we replaced carpet with hardwood floors a couple of years before getting Ionic Breeze. That got rid of a bunch of 'dust mites'! Then I just run a dust mop sprayed with some crap around real quick once or twice a week. Most of dust and mites come from carpets. Wife doesn't take any meds. after getting Ionic Breeze. I have always turned the shower on full blast on very hot each morning shooting the spray up my nose, which gets my attention, wakes me up better than coffee, and also clears out my sinuses for the rest of the day. One guy I told about this, said that might kill a normal person? I wasn't sure how to take the SOB's comment? Anyway wife and I doing fine, thank you!!

Tis true in Canada as well..
It's funny.. my Dad.. oxygen tubes in his nose, painkillers up his wazzoo, and inhalers every 4 hrs.. STILL swore till he day he died smoking never affected him. :(
My sister actually spent a fair amount of time quite angry with my Dad, whom she adored.. for smoking..she feels it cut her time short with him..
All I know is you cannot force anyone to quit smoking. Love them like they are.

We have never allowed anyone to smoke in our house when the kids are around. My MIL thinks I am an assh**e who does that just to piss her off. She is sooooo very wrong. When I wanted to piss her off I played Rush Limbaugh's radio program during dinner with her.

There are ways of dealing with second hand smoke- at least in the work place. I once worked with a guy (this was before the Bans on indoor smoking at work became popular) who at times smoked a brand of cigar that would cause my sinuses to swell & close in seconds. I would have to fight to breathe. Many times I literally begged this ass to not smoke those things near me. No luck. One morning about 10am when I am in a foul mood anyway he waltzes into our work area from a meeting & up to my desk with a coffee cup in one hand and THAT cigar in his pie hole.........THE LOOK on his face when I jerked the cigar out of mouth and doused it in his coffee cup was PRICELESS.

Of course I damn near got terminated, but he finally the hint to keep those cigars away from me.

Not in Wichita. Our absolute worst rushhour is on a par with a major US City at 9am on a Sunday morning- the quietest traffic hour of the week.

I have seen local good ole boys stitch up gaping wounds with needle, thread and nothing more. Kath would love watching farmer first aid at harvest time around here. :o

My brother had his thumb stitched like that .. but i was too young to remember.. I just heard the stories..
I can remember my mother stitching a baby pig on the kitchen table though. ;D

How much is it at cost? Now that I am rid of the wall to wall carpet I am hoping my asthma and allergies will get better.

Years ago when we got rid of the carpets that were covering some nice hardwork floors, the family quota of runny noses and itchy eyes took a drastic and permanent nose dive.
